When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the impeller when:
- Exhaust-water discharge becomes weak
- Engine temperature begins rising
- The raw-water pump struggles to prime
- Blades become cracked, hardened or permanently folded
- Blade tips are damaged or missing
- The brass hub slips on the pump shaft
- The pump has operated without an adequate water supply
- Annual preventive cooling-system service is due
Badly bent or missing blades indicate that replacement is required, and any missing fragments should be recovered from downstream cooling-system components.
Installation Notes
- Stop the engine and isolate the starting circuit.
- Close the raw-water intake seacock.
- Remove the pump cover and old gasket or O-ring.
- Pull the old impeller with an appropriate impeller-removal tool.
- Avoid prying against the pump housing or sealing surface.
- Recover missing vane fragments from hoses, coolers and heat exchangers.
- Inspect the pump bore, cam, wear plate, cover and drive shaft.
- Apply the supplied lubricant to the new impeller.
- Align the hub's flat carefully with the D-shaped pump shaft.
- Install the correct gasket or O-ring and refit the cover.
- Reopen the seacock and confirm strong cooling-water discharge immediately after startup.
