When This Part Needs Replacement

Replace the impeller when:

• Raw-water or exhaust-water discharge becomes weak
• Engine temperature rises above normal
• The pump loses prime
• Impeller vanes are cracked, hardened or permanently bent
• Blade tips are worn or missing
• The hub slips on the shaft
• The pump has operated without water
• Seasonal or scheduled cooling-system service is due

Reduced flow, cracked blades and missing blade sections are recognised signs of impeller deterioration. Missing fragments should be recovered from downstream hoses, coolers and heat exchangers before the engine is returned to service.

Installation Notes

• Shut down the engine and disconnect the starting circuit.
• Close the raw-water intake seacock.
• Relieve tension from the serpentine belt as required for pump access.
• Remove the pump cover and existing sealing O-rings.
• Pull the old impeller straight from the double-flat shaft.
• Inspect the housing, cover and shaft for scoring or wear.
• Search downstream plumbing for broken impeller pieces.
• Lubricate the new impeller with an impeller-safe lubricant.
• Align both flats in the hub with the pump shaft.
• Replace the housing and bolt O-rings supplied for the pump assembly.
• Reassemble the pump, reopen the seacock and confirm strong exhaust-water flow immediately after startup.

Do not operate the raw-water pump dry.
