Why Water-Activated Lights?
Water-activated lights are critical for nighttime man overboard situations because they automatically illuminate when deployed, requiring no manual activation by the victim or crew. The automatic activation ensures the light will work even if the person in the water is unconscious or unable to activate it manually. The 2-hour minimum burn time provides ample illumination for search and rescue operations.
Installation:
- Lifebuoy Attachment - Secure light to lifebuoy ring or horseshoe buoy using provided mounting bracket
- Proper Orientation - Mount with light facing upward for maximum visibility
- Secure Fastening - Ensure light is firmly attached and won't detach during deployment
- Accessibility - Position where light will deploy with lifebuoy during MOB situation
Operation:
The light activates automatically upon contact with water. When a lifebuoy equipped with this light is thrown to a person overboard, the light immediately begins operating, making the buoy highly visible in darkness. The white light is visible from significant distances, helping rescue crews locate the victim quickly during nighttime operations.
Maintenance & Replacement:
- Inspect Regularly - Check light monthly for damage or corrosion
- Test Activation - Periodically test water activation by briefly immersing in water
- Check Expiration - Replace light according to manufacturer's expiration date
- Dry After Testing - Thoroughly dry light after testing to prevent premature battery drain
- Store Properly - Keep dry when not in use to preserve battery life
Regulatory Requirements:
SOLAS regulations require lifebuoys on commercial vessels to be equipped with self-igniting lights. At least one lifebuoy on each side of the vessel must have a self-igniting light that cannot be extinguished in water. The LALIZAS MOB light meets all international requirements for lifebuoy lighting on commercial and recreational vessels.
Essential safety equipment for nighttime man overboard visibility. The triple SOLAS/MED/USCG certification ensures compliance with international maritime safety regulations. Water-activated operation provides reliable, automatic illumination when seconds count during rescue operations.
