Quicksilver Driveshaft Slinger Ring 30271 / 8M0214918
This small rubber ring sits above the water pump housing on the driveshaft and plays a surprisingly important role: it deflects water and debris away from the pump housing area during operation. It’s one of those parts that’s easy to overlook during a water pump service — but if it’s worn, cracked, or missing, you’ll be back in the lower unit sooner than you’d like. This is the genuine OEM part, engineered to the correct durometer and dimensions for the application.
The original Mercury part number 25-30271 has been superseded to 8M0214918 — both references are the same current OEM part.

When to Replace
Replace any time the ring is missing, hardened, cracked, stretched, loose on the shaft, or damaged during water pump or lower unit service. During any water pump job, it takes seconds to inspect — if there’s any doubt, replace it.
Installation Notes
Install the ring in the correct position on the driveshaft above the water pump housing, following the Mercury service manual and parts diagram for your specific gearcase. Confirm it is seated correctly and not riding loosely on the shaft before reassembling the lower unit.

Parts Desk Insights
Best used as a proactive replacement during any water pump or lower unit service on supported Mercury and MerCruiser applications. This is one of the most commonly skipped parts during a water pump job — and one of the easiest to include. If the lower unit is already apart, there’s no reason not to swap it. Always order by the current part number (8M0214918) or the original (30271) — both will get you the same OEM part. If you’re sourcing aftermarket, Sierra 18-7426 and GLM 21330 are common cross-references, but OEM is the safest choice for fit and longevity.
