Quicksilver Corrosion Guard Aerosol Spray β 8M0152310
Part Number: 8M0152310
Brand: Mercury Marine / Quicksilver
Official Product Type: Marine Corrosion Inhibitor β Aerosol Spray, OEM
System: Corrosion Protection / Cosmetic Maintenance
Format: Aerosol spray, approx. 11 oz
Finish: Clear, non-sticky water-resistant barrier
About This Product
Quicksilver Corrosion Guard is the genuine Mercury OEM aerosol corrosion inhibitor designed for marine engines, drives, and hardware. It forms a clear, water-resistant barrier on metal surfaces that blocks moisture, salt, and airborne chemicals before they cause rust, oxidation, and surface deterioration. Unlike general-purpose rust sprays, Corrosion Guard is formulated specifically for the marine environment β where salt air, bilge moisture, and repeated wet/dry cycles accelerate corrosion far faster than on land-based equipment.
Safe on both painted and unpainted metal surfaces. Clear finish leaves no visible residue on treated components.
Compatible Applications
- Mercury outboard engine components β under-cowl surfaces, exposed block areas, and hardware
- MerCruiser sterndrive outdrives, lower units, and drive brackets
- Power trim motors, trim cylinders, and tilt assemblies
- Electrical connections, terminals, and exposed wiring connectors
- Transom brackets, mounting hardware, and fasteners
- Any painted or unpainted metal marine component requiring corrosion protection
Do not apply to sacrificial anodes, antifouling coatings, drive belts, pulleys, or air intakes.
When to Apply
- Seasonal winterization β the most important application; engines sitting idle over winter are most vulnerable to moisture-driven corrosion
- Spring commissioning β reapply after winter storage before the first outing
- After any service work that exposes bare metal or disturbs existing protective coatings
- Saltwater and brackish water operation β more frequent application recommended for boats in high-salinity environments
- Any time corrosion or surface oxidation is found during routine inspection
How to Apply
- Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application β remove salt, oil, and moisture for maximum adhesion
- Shake the can well before use
- Apply an even coat from approximately 20β30 cm (8β12 inches) from the surface
- Allow to dry before closing engine covers or reassembling components
- Avoid contact with drive belts, pulleys, air intakes, sacrificial anodes, and antifouling bottom paint

Technical FAQ
Can I use this on electrical connections?
Yes. Corrosion Guard is safe on electrical terminals and connectors and is commonly used to protect battery terminals, ignition connections, and other exposed electrical points from salt and moisture corrosion. It does not conduct electricity and will not interfere with electrical connections when applied as a thin protective coat.
Will this affect my sacrificial anodes?
Do not apply Corrosion Guard to sacrificial anodes (zinc, aluminum, or magnesium). Anodes must remain bare metal to function correctly β coating them prevents the electrochemical reaction that makes them work. Mask off anodes before spraying nearby surfaces.
How often should I apply it?
At minimum, apply at winterization and again at spring commissioning. For saltwater boats, more frequent application β every few months during the season β provides better protection. Reapply after any service work that disturbs the treated surface.
Is this the same as fogging oil?
No. Fogging oil (such as Mercury Fogging Oil 858081K03) is applied internally to cylinder walls and intake passages to protect engine internals during storage. Corrosion Guard is an external surface protectant for metal components, hardware, and electrical connections. Both are recommended as part of a complete winterization procedure.
Parts Desk Insights
Best use case: Corrosion Guard is the standard add-on for any seasonal service on a Mercury outboard or MerCruiser sterndrive β particularly for boats operating in saltwater or stored outdoors over winter. Itβs a low-cost product that prevents expensive corrosion damage to drives, trim systems, and electrical connections. Most technicians apply it as a matter of course during winterization and spring commissioning.
Common issues: The most frequent issue is customers applying Corrosion Guard to sacrificial anodes, which prevents the anodes from working and accelerates galvanic corrosion on the drive. Always remind customers to mask off anodes before spraying. A second common issue is applying to a wet or salt-contaminated surface β the spray will seal in moisture and salt rather than protecting against them. Surface must be clean and dry before application.
