What This Product Does
This is Mercury's current OEM sealing compound — a liquid Form-A-Gasket formulation used wherever Mercury or MerCruiser service procedures specify sealing compound. It seals mating surfaces and gasket joints in engine, drive, and marine hardware assemblies, providing resistance to oil, fuel, water, and the thermal cycling typical of marine engines.
Important: This is a sealing compound, not RTV silicone. Mercury catalogs these as separate service products with different applications. If your service manual specifies RTV silicone (such as 809825 Blue RTV), use that product instead. Use 8M0170149 only where the procedure specifically calls for sealing compound or the earlier Perfect Seal / 34227-series product.

When to Use

- Any time old sealant has been fully removed and fresh compound is required on reassembly
Application Notes
- Remove all old sealant and gasket residue before applying fresh compound
- Clean mating surfaces thoroughly — surfaces must be dry and free of oil or contamination
- Apply only the amount specified in the Mercury service procedure
- Avoid excess compound that could be displaced into oil, fuel, or cooling passages on assembly
- Follow the Mercury workshop manual for the specific assembly being serviced throughout
