Exhaust Y-Pipe Rubber Seal — Mercury MerCruiser OEM 41802

Part Number: 41802
Brand: Mercury Marine / Quicksilver (genuine OEM)
Official Product Type: Exhaust Y-Pipe Rubber Seal
UPC / GTIN: 745061145771

This is the genuine OEM rubber seal used where the exhaust Y-pipe assembly mates to the transom assembly on MerCruiser sterndrives. It seats in the gimbal-housing exhaust passage and prevents exhaust gas and water intrusion at that joint. It is not an exhaust bellows, gimbal-bearing seal, or general transom gasket — it is specific to the Y-pipe-to-transom connection.

Cross-Reference & Supersession

  • 41802 — Mercury / Quicksilver OEM
  • 8M0068607 — Mercury Marine equivalent reference
  • GLM 86217
  • SEI 9F-116-07
  • Recmar REC41802
  • OBR Red Rhino MR-949

Verify the current supersession chain against your serial-number-specific diagram before ordering.

Compatible Applications

Mercury where-used data confirms 41802 across these MerCruiser sterndrive transom assemblies:

  • R / MR
  • Alpha One
  • Alpha One Gen II
  • Bravo
  • Bravo One
  • Bravo Three
  • Blackhawk

Serial number fitment note: Gimbal-housing and exhaust configurations vary by production range. Confirm 41802 against the serial-number-specific transom assembly diagram for your drive before ordering. Send us your transom assembly serial number if you are unsure.

System & Diagram Position

System: Exhaust — Sterndrive & Transom
Assembly: Gimbal Housing / Transom Assembly
Diagram position: Exhaust Y-pipe to transom assembly sealing point. Mercury diagrams place 41802 at the exhaust connection within the gimbal-housing assembly. One seal is required per applicable gimbal-housing assembly.

When to Replace

  • The exhaust Y-pipe is removed for any reason
  • The existing seal is hardened, split, distorted, or compressed
  • Exhaust gas or water is present around the transom connection
  • The gimbal housing is being serviced or replaced
  • Corrosion is found around the Y-pipe sealing surface
  • The seal no longer seats evenly in the mating area

A seal that has been compressed or disturbed should not be reused.

Service Interval

Mercury does not publish a fixed mileage or hour interval for this seal. Best practice is to inspect at every exhaust Y-pipe or gimbal-housing service event and replace whenever the seal shows hardening, deformation, or any sign of leakage. Replace as a matter of course any time the Y-pipe is fully removed.

Installation Notes

  • Clean both mating surfaces and remove any corrosion or debris from the seal seat before fitting
  • Confirm the seal is correctly positioned before drawing the Y-pipe into the transom
  • Inspect nearby transom and gimbal-housing seals while access is available
  • Follow the applicable MerCruiser service procedure for exhaust Y-pipe installation

Inspect all seals and gaskets in the transom and gimbal-housing area while the exhaust connection is open.

Technical FAQ

Is this the exhaust bellows?
No. The 41802 is a rubber seal at the Y-pipe-to-transom joint. The exhaust bellows is a separate part covering the flexible section of the exhaust system. Confirm the diagram position for your drive before ordering.

One or two seals required?
One seal per gimbal-housing assembly.

Does this fit Bravo Three?
Yes. Mercury where-used data includes Bravo Three transom assemblies among the confirmed applications.

Can I reuse the old seal?
No. Once the Y-pipe joint has been disturbed, the original seal should be replaced. Compressed or hardened rubber will not seal reliably when reassembled.

Parts Desk Insights

The most common point of confusion on this part is scope: customers sometimes order 41802 expecting a bellows or a full transom gasket. It seals only the exhaust Y-pipe-to-transom connection. If you are rebuilding the gimbal housing or servicing the full transom area, order the adjacent 43713 seal and inspect the gimbal-bearing assembly at the same time. If the customer is reassembling after a water-ingestion event or extended storage, replace this seal regardless of visual condition — rubber that looks intact after long compression may not seat correctly. Common issue reported: installers skip replacing this seal after Y-pipe removal because it looks undamaged; exhaust leakage then surfaces at the transom after the first run.
