A verified location is position 72 in the Mercury 45/450 four-cylinder gear-housing/propeller-shaft diagram, beside gear-housing nut 11-87763. Confirm the lower-unit diagram and serial number before ordering; this is the gear-housing-cover washer rather than the propeller nut’s tab washer.
Replacement and Installation
Replace a washer with broken, fatigued or distorted locking tabs. Inspect the mating cover nut and seat it in the specified orientation; tighten and secure the retaining arrangement according to the lower-unit service procedure.
