This is the genuine OEM mounting bracket that secures the engine-driven sea water pump to the front accessory drive on applicable MerCruiser engines. The bracket maintains the pump’s position relative to the belt and pulley system, and must be in sound condition for proper belt alignment and pump operation. Part 8077491 replaces the earlier bracket 807749T.
A bent, cracked, or corroded bracket can cause pulley misalignment, accelerated belt wear, and side loading on the sea water pump shaft and bearings — leading to premature pump failure and potential cooling system issues.

Compatible Applications
Fitment is specific to the sea water pump and front accessory-drive configuration. Engines of the same displacement may use a different bracket depending on production year, drive type, and accessory arrangement. Confirm by engine serial number and the applicable sea water pump diagram.

Installation Notes
- Inspect the sea water pump shaft for play or roughness before reinstalling the bracket
- Check the pulley for damage, wobble, or corrosion
- Confirm the bracket seats flat against the engine block mounting surface
- Verify belt alignment with all pulleys before final tightening
- Inspect the drive belt and tensioning hardware while the pump is accessible
- Follow the applicable MerCruiser service manual for fastener torque specifications
Parts Desk Insights
Most common customer issue: Overlooking the bracket when chasing repeated belt wear or pulley misalignment. A distorted or cracked bracket shifts the pump out of plane with the other pulleys, which causes rapid belt wear and can overload the pump shaft bearings. If a belt or pump has failed more than once without a clear cause, the bracket should be inspected before replacing those parts again.
Best use case: Ideal for a complete sea water pump service on 4.3L V6 and 5.7L V8 MerCruiser engines where the bracket is being inspected or replaced due to damage, corrosion, or misalignment. Replace the bracket at the same time as the pump to avoid disassembling the front accessory drive twice.
