What This Product Is
Quicksilver 808887Q is an in-tank water eliminator — a moisture-absorbing unit that is suspended directly inside the fuel tank via the supplied lanyard so it rests at the lowest point in the tank, where water naturally collects. It absorbs free water that has settled out of the fuel before it can reach the engine’s fuel system.
How it differs from a water-separating fuel filter: A water-separating fuel filter removes water from fuel as it flows toward the engine. The 808887Q sits inside the fuel tank itself and absorbs water that has already settled at the bottom of the tank. These two approaches complement each other — the water eliminator addresses contamination already present in the tank; the filter protects the engine from water that remains in the fuel stream.
Not for diesel fuel. Do not use in diesel fuel tanks or any fuel system not listed below.

When to Replace
Replace the water eliminator when:

- Water contamination continues to recur in the tank after treatment
- The unit has been through a known fuel-contamination or phase-separation event
- The filter body or lanyard is cracked or damaged
- Routine fuel inspection finds water again in the tank
The water eliminator removes collected water — it does not fix the source of water intrusion. If water keeps returning to the tank, inspect the fuel cap seal, tank venting, and fuel supply source, and check for ethanol phase separation if the tank sat unused for an extended period.
How to Use
- Attach the supplied lanyard to the underside of the fuel cap or the filler neck opening
- Adjust the lanyard length so the water eliminator rests at the lowest point of the fuel tank
- Confirm it does not contact or restrict the fuel pickup tube or fuel sender float arm
- Leave in place until the tank has been in use for a suitable period or until water is no longer present
- Inspect and replace as needed — a saturated unit will feel heavier than a fresh one
- After removing water, investigate the source: inspect the fuel cap gasket, vent fittings, condensation patterns, and the quality of the last fuel fill

Why does my marine fuel tank have water in it?
Water enters marine fuel tanks through several routes: a worn or missing fuel cap gasket, open or damaged vent fittings, condensation from temperature cycling in a partially filled tank, and ethanol phase separation when the fuel has sat for an extended period. Ethanol-blended fuel can absorb atmospheric moisture and, when it reaches saturation, the ethanol and water separate from the gasoline and sink to the bottom of the tank. The 808887Q absorbs that settled water, but the underlying cause should still be corrected.
Is this product safe with ethanol-blended fuel (E10, E15)?
Yes. Quicksilver specifies 808887Q as compatible with all octane grades of gasoline, including ethanol-blended fuels.
Does this replace my water-separating fuel filter?
No. The 808887Q and a water-separating fuel filter serve different purposes and are best used together. The water eliminator treats water already in the tank; the filter protects the engine from water in the fuel supply line. Both are part of a complete fuel system maintenance approach.
Can I use this in a diesel tank?
No. Quicksilver specifies 808887Q for gasoline fuel systems only. Do not use in diesel tanks.
How do I know when it’s saturated and needs replacement?
A saturated water eliminator will be noticeably heavier than a fresh unit. There is no visual indicator — weigh it in hand before and after a period of use, or replace it routinely after any known water-contamination event.
