Mercury and Mariner outboards can use different under-cowl fuel filters depending on production range, fuel system, carbureted or EFI configuration, and engine family.
This kit is for the matching under-cowl bowl-style filter assembly and should not be substituted for an inline barb filter or remote fuel-water separating filter unless the parts diagram confirms the same part.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the fuel filter during scheduled annual or 100-hour service, or sooner if the engine shows hard starting, poor idle, hesitation, restricted fuel flow, lean running, fuel starvation, or contamination in the filter bowl. Replacement is also recommended after stale fuel, ethanol-related debris, tank contamination, water intrusion, or fuel-system repairs.
Installation Notes
Shut off the fuel supply and relieve pressure as required before servicing the fuel filter. Remove the fuel bowl carefully, discard the old filter element, and clean the bowl if contamination is present. Replace the supplied gasket or seal during reassembly to help prevent fuel leaks.
After installation, prime the fuel system, inspect for leaks, and run the engine on a proper water supply to confirm stable operation. Do not reuse swollen, cracked, flattened, or fuel-damaged seals.
