Mercury MerCruiser Bravo III Sterndrive 2.00:1 – Part No. 5441600TP

The Bravo III is Mercury MerCruiser’s flagship dual contra-rotating sterndrive, engineered for heavier gas and diesel-powered boats where tracking, acceleration, and slow-speed control are priorities. This is a complete replacement drive assembly at the 2.00:1 gear ratio — the higher-speed ratio in the Bravo III lineup, suited to lighter hulls and higher-RPM engine packages where top-end speed and efficiency take priority over low-end torque. Built to original equipment specifications for serial number 0W250000 and up.

Part Details

  • Part Number: 5441600TP
  • Brand: Mercury Marine / MerCruiser

  • Serial number 0W250000 and up — verify against your transom assembly and original drive model before ordering
  • Best suited to lighter hulls and higher-RPM applications where top-end speed is the priority

This drive does not include the gimbal housing, trim cylinders, or propellers. Always verify the original drive ratio, serial number range, and transom assembly compatibility before ordering. The 2.00:1 and 2.20:1 drives are not interchangeable.

Dimensions & Weight

  • Drive weight: approximately 148–164 lb (67–74 kg) depending on configuration
  • Freight shipment required — contact us for shipping options before ordering

Installation Notes

  • Confirm the 2.00:1 ratio matches the original drive before ordering
  • Inspect and replace transom bellows, gimbal bearing, shift cable, and anodes before mounting the replacement drive
  • Verify alignment using Mercury’s alignment tool before final installation
  • Fill with the correct Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube before operation
  • Select propellers appropriate for the engine, gear ratio, and hull — propeller selection significantly affects performance and engine RPM
  • Follow the Mercury MerCruiser service manual for torque specifications and installation sequence

Service Interval

Change gear lube at the intervals specified in the Mercury service manual (typically annually or every 100 hours). Inspect bellows, anodes, and gimbal bearing at each annual service. Replace the drive assembly when gear damage, housing damage, water intrusion, or bearing failure makes repair impractical.

Parts Desk Insights

Best use case: Complete drive replacement on lighter, higher-speed hulls where the 2.00:1 ratio is correct for the engine and propeller package. The 2.00:1 turns the propeller faster relative to engine RPM than the 2.20:1, which suits applications where top-end speed and efficiency matter more than low-end pulling power. If you’re unsure which ratio your boat originally had, check the tag on the existing drive or cross-reference the engine serial number with Mercury’s parts catalog.

Common mistakes: Ordering the 2.00:1 when the boat originally had a 2.20:1 — or vice versa. The two ratios produce meaningfully different engine RPM at cruise and wide-open throttle, and the wrong ratio will push the engine out of its optimal RPM range. Also confirm the serial number range: Bravo III drives changed specifications at 0W250000. Do not assume propellers from the old drive will work correctly on the replacement without re-evaluating prop selection for the new ratio.
