Mercury MerCruiser Quicksilver 14-18323 / 18323 is a genuine OEM keyed tab washer used in the propeller-shaft bearing carrier assembly on multiple Mercury and MerCruiser gearcases. It installs directly with the bearing-carrier retaining nut, where the keyed washer helps lock the retainer in position after service. Mercury gearcase diagrams show 18323 immediately beside the bearing-carrier retainer, including Alpha One Gen II and Bravo applications.

Fitment Notice
Confirm 14-18323 against the sterndrive or outboard serial number and exact gearcase diagram before ordering. The washer is tied to the bearing-carrier and retainer configuration.
On certain earlier gearcases, Mercury diagrams distinguish between:
- 18323 – Keyed washer used with specified bearing-carrier configurations
- 79447 – Tab washer used with other carrier versions
For example, some older assemblies specify 18323 with the 73020C1 carrier, while 79447 is shown for the 73020C configuration.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the keyed washer whenever its locking tab has been bent, damaged, fatigued, corroded, or can no longer positively secure the bearing-carrier retainer. Because the washer is mechanically deformed during locking, replacement during bearing-carrier service is generally preferable to reusing a weakened tab.
Installation Notes
Install the keyed washer in its correct position immediately ahead of the applicable bearing-carrier retainer. Confirm the key engages properly and follow the Mercury service procedure when tightening and locking the retaining nut.
While the carrier is apart, inspect:
- Bearing-carrier retainer
- Inner and outer propeller-shaft seals
- Bearing carrier
- Propeller shaft
- Carrier O-rings
- Nearby anode and retaining hardware
Avoid repeatedly bending the same locking tab during reassembly.
Alternate/Superseded Part Numbers
- 18323 – Current Mercury Marine keyed washer
- 14-18323 – Mercury / Quicksilver formatted part number
- 17460 / 14-17460 – Earlier Mercury tab washer superseded by 18323

Parts Desk Insight
This is a small part, but it directly locks the bearing-carrier retaining nut. If the carrier is already out for seal or bearing work, replacing a previously bent keyed washer is cheap insurance against having to reopen the gearcase because the retainer was not locked securely.
