Mercury Quicksilver Flat Aluminum Anode Plate — Part #76214Q5
The Mercury Quicksilver 76214Q5 is a genuine OEM flat aluminum anode plate designed to protect your outboard or sterndrive from galvanic corrosion. Unlike the standard fin-style trim-tab anode, this flat-profile plate provides the extra propeller clearance needed for high-rake propeller applications — where a conventional tab anode would contact the blade tips. It's cast from military-spec aluminum alloy and is suitable for both freshwater and saltwater use.
Part Details
- Part Number: 76214Q5 (full Mercury number: 97-76214Q5)
- Brand: Mercury / Quicksilver
- Product Type: Flat Anti-Ventilation Plate Anode
- Material: Cast aluminum
- Supersedes: 76214A5, 76214A2, 76214A1, 76214
- Cross-reference: Sierra 18-6016A
- Specification: Meets or exceeds MIL-A-24779(SH)

Compatible Applications
- Mercury / Mariner outboards 35–300 HP (selected models)
- Force 90 and 100 HP outboards, 1995 and newer
- MerCruiser Alpha One Gen II stern drives
- MerCruiser Bravo I stern drives
- MerCruiser Bravo II stern drives
- MerCruiser Bravo III stern drives
- MerCruiser Bravo X / XR / XZ stern drives
- Fitment note: This flat plate is used in place of a fin-style trim-tab anode where additional propeller clearance is required. Confirm your gearcase or sterndrive uses the compatible anti-ventilation plate anode cavity before ordering.
Dimensions
- Flat plate profile — no fin or tab protrusion
- Approximate weight: 0.4 lbs
- Refer to your Mercury service manual for exact mounting dimensions
System
Corrosion protection — sacrificial galvanic anode for the anti-ventilation plate cavity on Mercury outboards and MerCruiser stern drives. Protects submerged gearcase and drive components from galvanic corrosion when operating in fresh, brackish, or saltwater.
When to Replace
Inspect the anode at every season start and at regular intervals throughout the season. Replace when the anode shows significant pitting, corrosion, or has lost more than approximately 50% of its original material. Never paint over or apply sealant to an anode — it must maintain bare metal-to-metal contact to provide protection.
Installation Notes
- Remove the existing anode and clean the mounting surface of any corrosion or debris
- Ensure the new anode seats with direct metal-to-metal contact — no paint, primer, or sealant between the anode and mounting surface
- Torque the mounting fasteners to Mercury's specified value
- Do not apply antifouling paint to the anode surface
Service Interval
Inspect annually or every 100 hours, whichever comes first. Replace immediately if material loss is significant or if submerged metals show signs of galvanic pitting.

Technical FAQ
- What is the difference between 76214Q5 and a standard trim-tab anode? The 76214Q5 is a flat plate with no fin or tab — it sits flush in the anti-ventilation plate cavity and provides extra clearance for high-rake propellers where a fin-style anode would contact the blade tips.
- Can I use this in saltwater? Yes — aluminum anodes are suitable for saltwater and brackish water. For heavily polluted or low-salinity freshwater, a zinc anode may be preferred; consult your Mercury dealer if unsure.
- Is aluminum or zinc better for my application? Aluminum anodes provide protection across a wider range of water conditions (fresh, brackish, and salt) and are Mercury's recommended choice for most applications. Zinc is traditionally used in saltwater only.
- Does this replace 76214A5? Yes — 76214Q5 directly supersedes 76214A5 and all earlier variants in the 76214 series.
- How do I know when to replace it? When the anode has lost roughly half or more of its original material, or shows heavy pitting, it's time to replace. Don't wait until it's fully consumed — once gone, your drive hardware is unprotected.
Parts Desk Insights
The 76214Q5 is the flat anode — the key detail that makes it different from the standard fin-style trim-tab anode that most people picture. Customers most commonly need this version when they've upgraded to a high-rake or cleaver-style propeller and find the standard trim-tab anode is contacting the blades. It's also the correct OEM replacement for the Bravo drive family anti-ventilation plate cavity. The most common ordering mistake is confusing this with the fin-style trim-tab anode — if you're not sure which style your drive uses, check your current installed anode before ordering. If yours has a fin or tab sticking down, that's a different part; if it's flat and flush with the plate, this is it.
