Johnson Pump Marine Ultima Combo Automatic Bilge Pump 08203-00
Product Description
The Johnson Pump Marine Ultima Combo Bilge Pump 08203-00 is a 12V automatic submersible bilge pump assembly designed to remove bilge water from compatible marine compartments. It combines a high-capacity cartridge-style pump with an integrated electronic Ultima water sensor, allowing automatic pump operation without a traditional moving float arm.
The solid-state sensor uses Mirus field-effect detector cell technology to sense water level and activate the pump automatically, helping keep the bilge clear during normal vessel operation.

System Compatibility
Common application context includes compatible marine bilge systems requiring a 12V automatic pump with a 1-1/8 in. discharge connection, including:
- Powerboats.
- Cruisers.
- Fishing boats.
- Workboats.
- Auxiliary bilge pump installations.
- Replacement automatic bilge pump applications where 1250 GPH capacity and 12V wiring are suitable.
Use this pump only where the vessel’s electrical system, hose size, discharge routing, bilge layout, fuse protection, and mounting area match the pump specifications.
Fitment Notice
Confirm voltage, discharge hose size, available mounting space, wiring layout, fuse size, bilge depth, discharge head height, and switch configuration before ordering. Bilge pump performance depends on hose length, vertical lift, fittings, check valves, battery condition, and discharge routing.
This is a complete automatic pump assembly. It is not just a standalone float switch or replacement motor cartridge.
When This Pump Needs Replacement
Replace the pump if the motor fails, the housing is cracked, the sensor no longer activates reliably, the pump runs but does not move water, the impeller is damaged, the wiring is corroded, or the pump cannot keep up with normal bilge water removal.
Replacement is also recommended when upgrading bilge capacity, servicing an older automatic pump, or replacing a unit with unreliable mechanical float switch operation.
Installation Notes
Mount the pump low in the bilge in a clean, accessible location. Route the discharge hose with smooth bends and secure it above the waterline according to the vessel’s bilge plumbing layout. Use the correct 1-1/8 in. bilge hose and approved marine wiring practices.
Wire the pump with proper fuse protection and corrosion-resistant electrical connections. The automatic lead should be connected for sensor-controlled operation, while the manual override lead can be connected to a suitable dashboard switch. Test automatic and manual operation after installation and confirm strong discharge flow with no leaks.

Parts Desk Insight
The key advantage of this pump is the integrated electronic sensor and removable cartridge design. The electronic sensor avoids the sticking issues that can happen with mechanical float arms, while the cartridge motor layout makes future service easier without removing the entire pump base or reworking the plumbing.
