Pump Compatibility
This kit is intended for Sherwood raw-water pump applications that specify 17000K-SHW, 17000K, or 17000A impeller service components.
Confirm compatibility by:
- Sherwood pump model number.
- Existing impeller dimensions.
- Shaft diameter.
- Drive key size.
- Pump cover sealing style.
- Engine raw-water pump parts diagram.
- OEM service manual or pump tag.
Do not rely on engine brand alone. The same engine family may have different raw-water pumps depending on model year, marinizer, cooling layout, or prior pump replacement history.
Fitment Notice
Verify the pump model and old impeller before ordering. The correct impeller must match the pump cavity diameter, impeller depth, shaft size, keyway, cover seal, and drive configuration. An incorrect impeller can reduce raw-water flow, damage the pump body, overload the pump shaft, or cause engine overheating.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the impeller if blades are cracked, hardened, swollen, missing, permanently bent, heat-damaged, or worn at the hub. Replacement is also recommended during annual cooling-system service, after running the pump dry, after overheating, when water flow is reduced, or whenever the pump cover is removed and the impeller condition is uncertain.
Inspect the pump cover, cam, wear plate, shaft seal area, and cover O-ring during service. Damaged or grooved pump surfaces can shorten new impeller life.
Installation Notes
Close the seacock or isolate the raw-water supply before opening the pump. Remove the pump cover and old impeller carefully. If the impeller is stuck in the bronze pump body, use the correct puller method rather than prying against the housing. The internal core is designed to support a compatible 3/4 in.-16 mechanical removal tool such as the Sherwood 25105 style puller.
Lubricate the new impeller with an approved impeller lubricant or clean soapy water before installation. Align the keyway, install the supplied drive key, and rotate the impeller in the normal pump direction as it enters the cavity. Replace the cover O-ring, reinstall the cover evenly, reopen the seacock, and confirm strong raw-water discharge after startup.
Do not run a flexible impeller pump dry. Even brief dry running can damage neoprene blades.

Parts Desk Insight
The impeller is the heart of the raw-water cooling pump. On a marine engine, a worn or dry-run impeller can quickly reduce cooling water flow and lead to overheating. For best reliability, replace the impeller on a regular service schedule, confirm the pump cavity is clean and smooth, and keep the old impeller blades accounted for if any pieces are missing.
