Pettit EZ Wood Sealer is a phenolic resin-based primer designed to prepare bare and raw wood for painting or varnishing. Applied as the first coat on new or stripped wood, it penetrates deep into the grain to stabilize the surface, improve moisture resistance, and prevent the wood from absorbing too much of the topcoat — giving you better adhesion, more even coverage, and a longer-lasting finish overall.
It’s an essential first step before applying varnish such as Pettit Captain’s Varnish or any marine paint on bare wood, ensuring the finish bonds properly and builds evenly from the first coat.
