    Product Compatibility

This windlass is intended for boats requiring a compact horizontal windlass compatible with 5/16" G4 high-test chain and matching nylon rope rode. It is commonly used on cruising boats, fishing boats, and small-to-mid-size yachts where the anchor locker, bow roller, deck thickness, wiring, and rode fall are suitable for a horizontal rope/chain windlass.

The Pro-Series 1000H is best suited for installations where controlled powered deployment and powered retrieval are preferred over automatic free-fall anchoring.

    Fitment Notice

Confirm the complete anchor system before ordering. Windlass fitment depends on boat length and displacement, anchor size, chain type, rope size, bow roller alignment, deck thickness, anchor locker depth, rode fall, wiring gauge, circuit protection, and available mounting space.

This model uses a 5/16" G4 HT chain gypsy. Do not assume all 5/16" chain will work. Chain grade, link dimensions, and rope splice quality must match the gypsy requirements for reliable feeding.

    Pro-Series vs. Pro-Fish

The Pro-Series 1000H uses standard powered up and powered down operation. The motor drives the anchor both down and back up, giving controlled deployment from the helm or deck switch.

The Pro-Fish 1000 is the related free-fall version. It uses an automatic free-fall mechanism that allows the anchor to drop quickly by gravity, then re-engages for powered retrieval. The Pro-Fish version is often preferred by anglers who need fast anchor drops over fishing structure.

These models may look similar and share related stainless construction, but the deployment method is different. Confirm whether the boat needs controlled power-down or free-fall operation before selecting a model.

    When This Product Needs Replacement

Replace or upgrade the windlass if the existing unit slips on the rode, fails to retrieve under load, has a worn gypsy, corroded housing, weak motor, damaged gearbox, unreliable solenoid operation, or no longer matches the vessel’s anchor and rode setup. Replacement may also be appropriate when converting from manual anchoring to powered anchoring, changing chain size, or refitting the bow and anchor locker.

Inspect the rode, chain, splice, bow roller, deck switches, breaker, wiring, solenoid, and mounting hardware before assuming the windlass alone is the problem.

    Installation Notes

Install the windlass on a strong, flat, properly supported deck surface with correct alignment to the bow roller and anchor locker. The rode must fall freely into the locker without piling up under the gypsy. Poor rode fall can cause feeding problems even when the windlass is correctly sized.

Use properly sized marine-grade wiring, circuit protection, terminals, and switchgear for the full current load and cable run length. Follow Lewmar installation instructions for mounting template use, fastener sealing, deck reinforcement, electrical layout, breaker placement, solenoid wiring, rode setup, manual recovery operation, and commissioning.

Do not use the windlass as a cleat. Once anchored, secure the rode with a chain stopper, snubber, or proper deck hardware so the windlass is not carrying the boat’s anchoring load.

    Parts Desk Insight

The biggest installation issue with windlasses is not the motor size — it is the whole bow system. Chain type, rope size, splice quality, anchor locker depth, and rode fall all need to work together. Before replacing an older unit, confirm the chain specification and locker clearance so the new Pro-Series 1000H feeds smoothly instead of jamming or piling up below deck.
