The Sea-Dog 7-Key Universal Kill Switch with Lanyard is a marine-grade emergency cut-off that stops the engine the moment the operator leaves the helm. Clip the 50-inch lanyard to your life jacket or wrist before getting underway — if you fall overboard or step away from the controls, the lanyard pulls free and cuts engine power, preventing the boat from running unmanned. The 7-key connector is one of the most widely used formats on the water, fitting kill-switch receptacles across eleven major outboard brands.
Key Features
- 7-key lanyard connector fits OMC, Johnson, Evinrude, Mercury, Mariner, Force, Yamaha, Honda, Tohatsu, Suzuki and Nissan kill switches
- 50-inch lanyard — long enough for comfortable movement at the helm
- Instantly cuts battery power when the lanyard is detached
- Injection-moulded nylon and Delrin construction
- Weatherproof and corrosion-resistant
- Weight: 66 g / 2.3 oz
Intended Use
Designed for outboard-powered boats and personal watercraft where the engine uses a 7-key kill-switch receptacle. Attach the lanyard to your life jacket or wrist before starting the engine so it trips automatically if you are separated from the controls.
Fitment Notice
This switch uses a 7-key lanyard connector. Confirm that your engine's kill-switch receptacle accepts a 7-key plug before ordering. If your engine uses a 10-key receptacle, see the Sea-Dog 10-Key Universal Kill Switch with Lanyard. For a panel-mounted dual-circuit option, see the Sea-Dog Universal Kill Switch — Dual-Circuit Ignition Cut-Off.
Installation and Use Notes
Plug the 7-key connector into the engine's kill-switch receptacle. Attach the lanyard clip to your life jacket D-ring or wrist strap before starting the engine. Inspect the lanyard before each outing and replace it at the first sign of wear, cuts or fraying — a damaged lanyard may not pull free reliably in an emergency.

Parts Desk Insight
The 7-key connector is the most common format on older and mid-range outboards from OMC, Johnson, Evinrude and Mercury — making this the first lanyard to reach for when a customer isn't sure which key count their engine uses. If the engine is a newer Yamaha or Honda, confirm the key count first, as some models shifted to a 10-key receptacle. Always recommend replacing the lanyard at the same time as the switch.
