The Sherwood 18000K is a heavy-duty flexible impeller service kit for Sherwood 18000-series raw-water pumps used in large marine engine-cooling systems. Its 12-vane neoprene impeller measures 3-3/4 inches in diameter by 4 inches wide and uses a 15/16-inch, 14-tooth splined hub. The complete kit provides the impeller and required sealing components for scheduled pump maintenance or cooling-system repair.

The 18000K is dimensionally similar to the Sherwood 29000K, but the drive hubs are different: the 18000K has a 14-tooth spline, while the 29000K uses a 10-tooth spline. The 26000K also measures 3-3/4 inches in diameter but is narrower and uses a 10-tooth spline. These impellers are not interchangeable.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the impeller when:
- Cooling-water discharge becomes weak or intermittent
- Engine temperature begins rising above normal
- Exhaust-temperature or cooling-system alarms activate
- The vanes show cracking, tearing or excessive end abrasion
- Blades have hardened or remain permanently folded
- Pieces are missing from the impeller
- The spline insert is worn or slipping
- The pump has operated without water
- Scheduled preventive maintenance is due
Sherwood recommends regular inspection for cracks, tears and excessive abrasion, with service intervals based on engine use and operating conditions.
Installation Notes
- Shut down the engine and isolate its starting system.
- Close the raw-water seacock.
- Remove the pump cover and sealing components.
- Use the Sherwood impeller puller system or the correct threaded removal tool.
- Recover all missing vane fragments from the downstream cooling circuit.
- Inspect the cover, cam liners, housing, shaft spline and wear surfaces.
- Lubricate the new impeller with glycerine or an approved rubber-safe lubricant.
- Carefully align the 14-tooth splined hub.
- Install the supplied sealing components.
- Reassemble the pump according to the Sherwood 18000-series technical guide.
- Reopen the seacock and verify strong water flow before operating under load.
Never operate a flexible impeller pump dry.
