What This Hose Is For

Trident Series 165 is a reinforced PVC cold-water hose built for pressurized marine potable-water and general cold-water plumbing installations. Its FDA-grade tube is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless — safe for onboard drinking water systems. The translucent blue color-coding makes it easy to identify cold-water runs at a glance, and the 3-ply polyester reinforcement keeps it stable under pressure while remaining flexible enough for routing in confined spaces.

This hose is not rated for below-waterline intake use. Series 165 is designed for cold-water feed, drain, and vent applications above the waterline only.

Compatible Applications

  • Pressurized cold potable-water lines
  • Freshwater feed lines from tanks to fixtures
  • Above-waterline drain lines
  • Vent lines
  • General above-waterline cold-water plumbing where reinforced PVC is specified

Fitment Notice

This is a 1/2-inch ID hose. Confirm that hose barbs, fittings, and plumbing connections are sized for 1/2-inch hose before ordering. Do not use this hose for hot water, fuel, sanitation discharge, or below-waterline raw-water intake service — those applications require hose specifically rated for those conditions.

When to Replace

  • Cracking, hardening, or brittleness in the hose wall
  • Bulging, soft spots, or delamination
  • Abrasion through the outer wall
  • Kinking that restricts flow
  • Persistent leakage at fittings or clamp bands
  • Discoloration or contamination affecting potable-water suitability

Installation Notes

  • Cut the hose squarely for a proper barb fit
  • Install over correctly sized 1/2-inch hose-barb fittings
  • Use marine-grade hose clamps appropriate to the system pressure
  • Maintain a minimum bend radius of approximately 0.98 in. / 25 mm
  • Route away from sharp edges, heat sources, and engine components
  • Do not use below the waterline or for hot-water service

Service Interval

Inspect annually or at each haul-out. For potable-water systems, also inspect if water taste or odor changes. Replace at the first sign of cracking, hardening, bulging, or leakage — do not wait for failure on a pressurized line.

Technical FAQ

Is this hose safe for drinking water?
Yes. The Series 165 tube is FDA-grade — non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless — making it suitable for pressurized potable-water lines aboard a vessel.

Can I use this hose below the waterline?
No. Series 165 is not recommended for below-waterline service. Below-waterline intake applications require hose specifically rated and constructed for that use (such as USCG Type A or wet exhaust hose for the applicable system).

Can I use Series 165 for hot water lines?
No. The temperature rating tops out at 149°F / 65°C. For hot-water lines, use hose specifically rated for continuous hot-water service at your system’s operating temperature.

Why is the hose blue?
The translucent blue color is a marine-standard cold-water identifier. It lets you distinguish cold-water runs from hot-water (typically red or striped) and other system hoses when tracing lines in a bilge or cabinet.

What fittings does this hose work with?
Standard 1/2-inch hose-barb fittings in bronze, stainless, or plastic rated for potable-water service. Confirm barb sizing matches the 1/2-inch ID before installing.

Parts Desk Insights

Series 165 is the right call for onboard cold freshwater plumbing where you want a potable-water-safe, colour-coded hose that holds up under normal water-system pressure. The blue colour-coding is genuinely useful in a busy bilge or cabinet — it makes tracing cold-water runs quick without having to follow every line back to the source. The thing to watch: customers occasionally try to use this for below-waterline intake or hot-water lines because it looks like general-purpose hose. It is not rated for either. If the installation is below the waterline or involves hot water, they need a different product entirely.
