The Volvo Penta 853869 is a genuine OEM front propeller lock washer used on select Volvo Penta Duoprop sterndrives. This tab-style lock washer secures the forward / inner propeller nut on the propeller shaft and helps prevent the nut from backing off under vibration and propeller load. It is used with the front 16 mm propeller nut, Volvo Penta 852196, on compatible DP-style dual-propeller lower gear units.

When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace this lock washer whenever the front Duoprop propeller is removed for service, propeller replacement, shaft inspection, or lower unit work. It should also be replaced if the locking tabs are cracked, over-bent, corroded, distorted, or no longer hold tension against the nut.
Installation Notes
Install with the correct Volvo Penta front propeller nut and follow the Volvo Penta propeller installation procedure for the specific drive model. Inspect the propeller shaft threads, thrust washer, propeller hub, spacer hardware, and both propeller nuts while the propellers are removed. Reusing a fatigued lock washer can reduce nut retention and may allow the front propeller hardware to loosen.
