The NGK DCPR6E is a standard copper-core nickel spark plug used in select small marine outboards, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, and powersports applications where the manufacturer specifies the DCPR6E / NGK 3481 plug profile. It features a resistor design to help reduce ignition-related radio frequency interference, a projected insulator nose for proper spark positioning in compatible combustion chambers, and a flat/gasket seat for applications that require this plug style.

This plug should be installed only where the engine service manual, ignition label, or factory application chart specifically calls for NGK DCPR6E, NGK 3481, or an approved equivalent.

Key Features

  • Genuine NGK standard spark plug.
  • NGK part number: DCPR6E.
  • NGK stock number: 3481.
  • Copper-core nickel construction for standard service applications.
  • Built-in resistor to help reduce ignition-related RFI noise.
  • Projected insulator nose design.
  • Thread diameter: 12 mm.
  • Thread reach: 19 mm / 3/4 in.
  • Hex size: 16 mm / 5/8 in.
  • Seat style: flat / gasket seat.
  • Heat range: 6.
  • Factory preset gap: 0.036 in. / 0.9 mm.
  • Commonly used in select small four-stroke marine outboards and powersports engines where specified.

Application Compatibility

Common application context includes select engines where the factory plug chart calls for NGK DCPR6E / 3481, including:

  • Select Mercury / Mariner 4 HP, 5 HP, and 6 HP FourStroke outboards where specified
  • Select Tohatsu / Nissan small FourStroke outboards where specified
  • Select cruiser motorcycle applications where the manufacturer lists DCPR6E
  • Select Honda VTX1300, Victory cruiser, Arctic Cat snowmobile/ATV, and similar powersports applications where specified by plug chart
  • Other marine, motorcycle, snowmobile, and utility engines that call for the same 12 mm, 19 mm reach, gasket-seat plug profile

Use this spark plug only where the manufacturer's application chart specifically lists DCPR6E, 3481, or an approved equivalent.

Fitment Notice

Confirm fitment by exact engine model, horsepower, serial number, year, service manual, and factory spark plug chart before ordering. Spark plugs with the same thread diameter can still differ in reach, heat range, seat style, terminal type, resistor specification, projected-tip design, and required gap. Installing the wrong plug can cause hard starting, misfire, poor idle, overheating, thread damage, piston contact, or ignition-system issues.

When This Part Needs Replacement

Replace spark plugs during scheduled tune-up service or whenever the plug is worn, fouled, fuel-soaked, oil-contaminated, corroded, cracked, damaged, or causing hard starting, rough idle, hesitation, misfire, weak acceleration, or poor low-speed running. Small four-stroke outboards that idle, troll, or operate in damp and salt-air environments should have plugs inspected regularly.

Installation Notes

Check the plug number and required gap against the engine service chart before installation. Install into clean, undamaged cylinder head threads and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification for the exact engine. Because this is a gasket-seat plug, confirm the sealing washer is present and seats correctly. Avoid adding anti-seize unless the engine or spark plug manufacturer specifically calls for it, as lubricant can change clamping load and increase the risk of over-tightening in aluminum cylinder heads.

Alternate/Superseded Part Numbers

  • NGK DCPR6E — spark plug part number
  • NGK 3481 — NGK stock number
  • DCPR6E Standard — product style reference
  • DCPR6E 3481 — common catalog reference

Parts Desk Insight

The DCPR6E is a 12 mm, long-reach, gasket-seat resistor plug. It is commonly used in compact four-stroke marine and powersports engines, but it should not be substituted by thread size alone. Matching the exact plug number, gap, seat style, and heat range to the engine's service chart helps prevent misfire, thread damage, and incorrect combustion-chamber reach.
