West System 206 Slow Hardener, 0.86 qt (C206B)
The 206 Slow Hardener is a general-purpose epoxy hardener formulated for use with 105 Epoxy Resin at a 5:1 mix ratio. It delivers a longer working time than the standard 205 Fast Hardener, making it the preferred choice for larger laminating jobs, complex assemblies, and warm-weather work where extra open time is needed. The cured system produces a high-strength, rigid, moisture-resistant bond suitable for structural marine applications.
Features
- Designed for use with 105 Epoxy Resin at a 5:1 ratio (resin to hardener)
- Pot life of approximately 20–25 minutes at 72°F (22°C) — longer working time than fast hardener
- Cures to a high-strength, rigid, moisture-resistant solid
- Ideal for warm-weather laminating where extended open time is needed
- Compatible with 300 Mini Pumps for accurate metering
- 0.86 qt (approx. 815 ml) — mid-size format suitable for moderate projects
Common Applications
- Fiberglass laminating and wet lay-up work
- Wood encapsulation and structural bonding on boats
- Filling, fairing, and coating in warm or humid conditions
- Multi-step assemblies requiring longer alignment and positioning time
Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: Recommend the 206 Slow Hardener to customers working in warm shop or outdoor conditions (above 70°F / 21°C), or tackling larger laminating jobs where they need more time to wet out fabric or position components before the epoxy begins to gel. It pairs directly with the West System C105B Resin (.98 Gal) or the larger West System C105C Resin (4.35 Gal) at a 5:1 ratio. For customers who need even more working time — particularly in hot weather or for very large pours — step them up to the West System C209SA Extra Slow Hardener or the West System C209SB Extra Slow Hardener (1.24 L). For clear coating or finish work where blush resistance matters, suggest the West System C207SA Special Clear Hardener instead. Accurate metering is critical — recommend the West System 306 Metering Pump to ensure the correct 5:1 ratio every time. This 0.86 qt size suits hobbyists and mid-scale repair projects; professional yards doing ongoing work should consider the larger hardener sizes for better value.
