The WIX 51515 is a full-flow spin-on engine oil filter commonly used on select Ford gasoline engines and Ford-based marine power packages. Its enhanced-cellulose filtration media removes abrasive contaminants from circulating engine oil, while the built-in anti-drainback valve helps retain oil in the filter during shutdown for faster lubrication at startup.
This long-format filter measures approximately 5.20 inches high by 3.66 inches in diameter and uses a 3/4"-16 mounting thread. It is rated at 21 microns nominal, with a 7–9 GPM flow range, an 8–11 psi bypass-valve setting, and a 290 psi burst-pressure rating.

Fitment Notice
Confirm the engine model, serial number, and number printed on the existing filter before ordering. Ford-based marine engines may use different filter lengths or remote-filter configurations even when the engine displacement is the same. Do not select the filter by its 3/4"-16 thread alone — the gasket dimensions, bypass-valve pressure, anti-drainback-valve requirement, and physical clearance must also match the installed lubrication system.
When to Replace
Replace the oil filter whenever the engine oil is changed or at the interval specified by the engine manufacturer. More frequent replacement may be appropriate for engines exposed to extended trolling or low-speed operation, heavy loads and high operating temperatures, short or infrequent operating cycles, fuel dilution or moisture contamination, long periods of seasonal storage, or internal engine repairs. A dented, corroded, or leaking filter should be replaced immediately.
Installation Notes
Remove the old filter and confirm its sealing gasket has not remained stuck to the mounting surface. Clean the filter head and lightly coat the new filter gasket with clean engine oil. Install by hand to the manufacturer’s tightening specification — do not overtighten. After installation: refill with the specified oil, start the engine and verify normal oil pressure, inspect the filter gasket and body for leakage, shut down and allow oil to settle, then recheck and correct the oil level. Ensure the longer filter body has adequate clearance from engine mounts, exhaust components, hoses, and the hull structure.
