Certification and Marine Installation Notice
The Freedom X series is ETL listed to CSA 107.1, UL 458 and the UL 458 Marine Supplement. Xantrex specifies drip shield part number 808-1050 when the installation requires UL 458 Marine Supplement compliance. Marine installations must also follow applicable ABYC electrical requirements for circuit protection, conductor sizing, grounding, equipment placement and ventilation.
Fitment Notice
This model is designed exclusively for a nominal 24-volt DC battery bank. It must not be connected to a 12-volt system, and it should not be confused with the 12-volt Freedom X 2000 (817-2000).
Confirm the battery-bank voltage, expected AC loads, available mounting space and incoming shore-power rating before ordering. At full output, the inverter draws approximately 96 amps from the 24-volt system before allowing for installation losses.
When This Product Needs Replacement
Inspect or replace the inverter if it repeatedly shuts down under loads it previously supported, fails to transfer correctly between external AC and inverter power, develops recurring low-voltage, overload or over-temperature faults, or shows evidence of overheated terminals, corrosion or internal electrical failure.
Test the battery bank, DC cable voltage drop, external AC supply and circuit protection before replacing the inverter. Weak batteries, loose connections and undersized conductors can produce symptoms similar to inverter failure.
Installation Notes
Install the inverter in a dry, ventilated location protected from water, excessive heat and fuel vapours. Use appropriately sized marine-grade DC conductors, a correctly rated battery fuse and a readily accessible battery disconnect. Keep the DC cable runs as short as practical and follow the Xantrex installation guide for mounting orientation, grounding, ventilation clearance and AC wiring.
The 24-volt model draws approximately half the current of a comparable 2,000-watt 12-volt inverter, but it still requires substantial DC conductors and correctly selected overcurrent protection.

Alternate Part Numbers
- Standard hardwired 24-volt model: 817-2000-21

- Similar 12-volt model: 817-2000 — not interchangeable
Parts Desk Insight
The 817-2000-21 is the 24-volt version of the Freedom X 2000 and must be matched to a 24-volt battery bank. Its approximately 96-amp full-load draw is lower than the roughly 192 amps required by the comparable 12-volt model (817-2000), which can reduce conductor size and voltage-drop concerns in suitable 24-volt installations. The system voltage must still be verified before installation because the 12- and 24-volt models are not interchangeable.
