The Yamaha 3FV-13440-00-00 is an original-equipment spin-on lubricating-oil filter for select early Yamaha four-stroke outboards. Yamaha identifies it as an Element Assembly, Oil Cleaner, designed to remove damaging contaminants from circulating engine oil while maintaining the lubrication flow needed to protect bearings, journals and other internal engine components.
This filter uses a 20 mm × 1.5 mounting thread. The original 3FV-13440-00-00 number has been replaced by the updated Yamaha 3FV-13440-31-00, which maintains the same intended fitment and function.

Serial Number Fitment Notice
Confirm the complete outboard model, production year and serial number before ordering. Yamaha engines with the same advertised horsepower may use different filters depending on displacement, production range and engine family.
Do not select a replacement solely because it has a 20 mm × 1.5 thread. The filter-body dimensions, sealing-gasket position, anti-drainback valve and internal flow characteristics must also match the engine's lubrication system.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the oil filter whenever the engine oil is changed or at the interval specified in the applicable Yamaha owner's or service manual.
Earlier replacement may be appropriate following:
- Extended trolling or low-speed operation
- Frequent short operating cycles
- Heavy-load or high-temperature use
- Fuel, water or debris contamination
- Long periods of seasonal storage
- Internal engine repairs
- Abnormal oil-pressure conditions
Replace the filter immediately if its housing is dented, heavily corroded or leaking.
Installation Notes
Remove the existing filter and confirm that its sealing gasket has not remained attached to the engine's filter mounting surface. Clean the sealing area and compare the replacement filter with the removed unit before installation.
Lightly coat the new gasket with clean engine oil and install the filter by hand according to Yamaha's tightening instructions. Do not overtighten.
After installation:
- Refill the engine with the specified grade and quantity of oil.
- Start the engine and allow oil pressure to build.
- Inspect the filter and gasket for leakage.
- Shut the engine down and allow the oil to settle.
- Recheck and correct the engine-oil level.

Parts Desk Insight
This is an older Yamaha filter number used across several early four-stroke outboards. The current 3FV-13440-31-00 replacement may arrive with a different suffix, but the engine model and serial number should still be checked before installation.
