Marine Cleats & Chocks
Deck Cleats, Chocks, Fairleads & Line-Handling Hardware
Shop marine cleats and chocks for secure line handling and mooring, including deck cleats, dock cleats, cleat chocks, cam cleats, rope clutches, fairleads, pad eyes, and related mounting hardware.
Match cleat size, line diameter, mounting surface, backing plate, fastener grade, and expected line load before installation.
Cleats and chocks handle real docking loads. Confirm hardware size, fastener pattern, backing support, fair lead angle, bedding compound, and deck-core protection before drilling.

Fitment
Size Cleats to the Boat, Line, and Load
A cleat needs enough horn length for the line diameter and expected load. Docking, spring lines, anchor rode, dinghy tie-downs, and sail-control lines all need different hardware choices.
Line Lead
Chocks and Fairleads Protect the Line Path
Chocks, fairleads, and line guides help keep dock lines from sawing across gelcoat, toe rails, rails, or sharp deck edges. Good lead angles reduce chafe and help hardware carry load correctly.
Add chafe protection where lines touch metal, fiberglass, pilings, docks, or rough surfaces.
Mooring Hardware
Deck cleats, dock cleats, chocks, fairleads, and line guides help secure dock lines, spring lines, breast lines, and anchor rode.
Line Control
Cam cleats, clam cleats, rope clutches, and pad eyes manage running rigging, control lines, small craft lines, and utility tie-downs.
Mounting Support
Stainless fasteners, backing plates, washers, bedding compound, and anti-seize help line-handling hardware stay secure.
Install Notes
Back Loaded Cleats Properly
Docking hardware can see shock loads from wind, wake, current, and surge. Use backing plates or large washers, seal the deck penetration, and make sure the underside is accessible before drilling.
Inspection
Look for Movement, Cracks, and Chafe
Inspect cleats and chocks for loose fasteners, cracked bases, bent horns, rust streaks, leaking bedding, elongated holes, and sharp edges that damage lines.
Mooring Setup
Hardware and Lines Work Together
Even strong cleats can fail if lines are too small, led poorly, or shock-loaded without stretch. Choose dock lines, chafe guards, and hardware as a system.
Recheck hardware after storms, heavy wake exposure, rafting, or any hard docking load.
FAQ
Cleats & Chocks Questions
What size boat cleat do I need?
Cleat size depends on boat size, line diameter, expected load, and mounting location. The cleat should allow proper figure-eight wraps and be strong enough for docking or mooring loads.
Do deck cleats need backing plates?
Loaded deck cleats should generally use backing plates or substantial backing support to spread line loads and reduce the chance of pull-through or deck damage.
What is the purpose of a chock?
A chock guides a dock line or mooring line through a controlled lead angle and helps keep the line from rubbing across sharp or damaging deck edges.
What is the difference between a cam cleat and a deck cleat?
A deck cleat is typically used for securing dock lines and general tie-offs. A cam cleat grips smaller control lines quickly and is common on sailboats, dinghies, and control-line setups.
