- 8-plait rope has a round, smooth profile that feeds more consistently through a windlass capstan than 3-strand — if you’ve had jamming issues with your current rode, switching to 8-plait is often the fix.
- Unlike 3-strand, 8-plait does not have a natural twist direction, so it won’t kockle (form tight loops) when flaked back into the locker — a significant advantage for high-cycle anchoring.
- 8-plait nylon still provides excellent shock absorption through stretch, comparable to 3-strand. It is not a low-stretch rope — do not confuse it with polyester braid, which is low-stretch and not recommended for anchoring.
- The included shackle should be moused (secured with seizing wire or a cable tie through the pin) to prevent it from unscrewing under load or vibration.
- Inspect the shackle and the first 10–15 feet of rope annually — this section takes the most abrasion from the anchor and seabed contact.
