Important: Impeller vs. Service Kit
ARCO IP003 is the replacement impeller only. Sierra 18-3089 is documented as a more complete water-pump service kit that includes the impeller plus seal, gasket, end cap, and cover screws. If the pump is leaking at the shaft seal or requires a full rebuild, you may need a complete service kit rather than the impeller alone.
Service Interval
Inspect the impeller annually at season launch. Replace immediately when any of the following are observed:
- Reduced or absent cooling-water flow at the exhaust
- Engine running warmer than normal
- Pump slow to prime or fails to prime
- Blades cracked, torn, hardened, or permanently set
- Blade tips missing — inspect all downstream hoses and cooling passages before fitting the replacement
- Pump has operated without water supply (ran dry)
Installation Notes
- Shut down the engine and disconnect the battery before beginning service
- Close the raw-water intake seacock where fitted
- Note pump cover orientation before disassembly for correct reassembly
- Remove the old impeller carefully — do not damage the housing bore or pump shaft
- Inspect the pump housing bore, cam surface, shaft, and cover plate for scoring or wear
- Locate and recover all missing blade pieces from downstream passages before installing the new impeller
- Lubricate the replacement impeller with glycerin or dish soap before installation — do not use petroleum-based lubricants
- Align the splined hub with the pump shaft and seat the impeller fully
- Replace the cover gasket and shaft seal as required — these are included in the Sierra 18-3089 kit if a full service is needed
- Tighten the cover fasteners evenly
- Open the seacock and confirm strong cooling-water flow at the exhaust outlet immediately after startup
