Johnson Pump F5B Impeller Kit 09-1027B-1

Part Number: 09-1027B-1 (also shown as 091027B1)

The Johnson Pump 09-1027B-1 is a genuine F5 / F5B flexible impeller kit for marine engine raw-water cooling pumps. It uses Johnson’s MC97 / EPDM cooling-water compound in a 12-blade, splined-drive configuration and directly replaces Jabsco 1210-0001.

Impeller Specifications

  • Pump family: Johnson Pump F5 / F5B
  • Material: MC97 / EPDM cooling-water compound
  • Number of blades: 12
  • Drive type: Splined hub
  • Outside diameter: 2.25 in. / 57.1 mm
  • Width: 1.24 in. / 31.5 mm

Compatible Applications

Johnson identifies 09-1027B-1 for F5 and F5B pump assemblies. OEM cross-references associate this kit with cooling systems on engines from:

  • Volvo Penta — including 3.0L, 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L, and 8.2L gasoline-engine families where an F5B pump is fitted
  • Perkins
  • Onan
  • Yanmar
  • Westerbeke / Universal
  • Vetus
  • Sole Diesel
  • Mase

Always confirm fitment by matching the existing pump model and impeller number. Do not select by engine brand or diameter alone.

Fitment Notice

Before ordering, confirm:

  • Existing impeller number
  • Pump manufacturer, model, and F5 / F5B designation
  • 12-blade configuration
  • Splined drive hub
  • Outside diameter: 2.25 in. / 57.1 mm
  • Width: 1.24 in. / 31.5 mm

Johnson makes other F5 impellers with the same basic diameter but different hub or material specifications. The full impeller number is the safest fitment reference.

When to Replace the Impeller

  • Cooling-water flow becomes weak or intermittent
  • Vanes are cracked, torn, stiff, or permanently deformed
  • Missing blade material is found — inspect all downstream cooling passages for fragments before reassembly
  • Pump has been run dry
  • Engine has experienced overheating
  • Annual raw-water pump maintenance is due

Installation Notes

  • Shut off the raw-water intake before beginning work
  • Remove the pump cover and extract the old impeller
  • Inspect the old impeller for missing vane pieces — locate all fragments before closing up
  • Inspect the cam, cover plate, and pump chamber for scoring or wear
  • Confirm the splined hub engages the pump shaft correctly before seating the impeller
  • Lubricate the new impeller with approved water-safe impeller lubricant
  • Replace applicable gasket or O-ring components
  • Rotate the pump shaft in its normal operating direction while seating the impeller
  • Verify strong cooling-water flow immediately after startup

Parts Desk Insights

The Johnson 09-1027B-1 is one of the most widely used F5B impellers in the market, covering a broad range of Volvo Penta gasoline engines (3.0L through 8.2L) as well as Westerbeke, Onan, Yanmar, and Perkins diesel applications where an F5B pump is fitted. The Jabsco 1210-0001 cross-reference is particularly useful when servicing older installations where a Johnson pump number isn’t readily available. The five Volvo Penta OEM references (825940, 860203, 875811, 21213660, 21951346) cover different model-year applications within this pump family.

The most common ordering issue is selecting an F5 impeller by outside diameter alone. Johnson produces multiple F5 variants with the same 2.25 in. diameter but different hub styles, blade counts, or material compounds. The 12-blade splined configuration of the 09-1027B-1 is the defining feature, and matching the full impeller number is the only reliable way to confirm the right kit. As always, check the old impeller for missing vane pieces before reinstalling the pump cover — fragments in the cooling circuit are a frequent cause of continued overheating even after a successful impeller replacement.
