The Raymarine A25062 is a complete SeaTalkNG (STng) backbone starter kit that provides everything needed to build a NMEA 2000-compatible onboard network for Raymarine marine electronics. SeaTalkNG is Raymarine’s implementation of the NMEA 2000 standard, allowing chartplotters, multifunction displays, autopilot systems, instruments, transducers, and sensors to share data over a single backbone network.

This kit is designed for new installations or expanding an existing SeaTalkNG network and includes all core backbone components — no additional hardware required to get a basic multi-device network running.

How SeaTalkNG Works

SeaTalkNG creates a single network backbone running through the vessel. Each device — chartplotter, autopilot, instrument, transducer, sensor — connects via a short spur cable to one of the T-piece connectors on the backbone. All devices share data simultaneously: GPS position, depth, speed, wind, heading, and AIS data all travel on the same network. A terminator plug is required at each open end of the backbone to prevent signal reflection.

SeaTalkNG uses the same physical and electrical standard as NMEA 2000 Micro-C, making it compatible with many non-Raymarine devices via an adapter cable.

  • Is SeaTalkNG the same as NMEA 2000? SeaTalkNG uses the same electrical and physical standard as NMEA 2000 Micro-C but uses Raymarine’s own connector format. A SeaTalkNG to DeviceNet adapter cable allows connection of NMEA 2000 Micro-C devices to a SeaTalkNG backbone and vice versa.
  • How many devices can this kit support? The included kit provides 4 T-piece drop points. Additional T-pieces and backbone cable extensions can be added to support more devices, up to the NMEA 2000 network limit of 50 devices per backbone segment.
  • Do I need to terminate both ends of the backbone? Yes. Both open ends of the backbone must have a terminator plug installed. The kit includes both a male and female terminator. Running a backbone without terminators will cause network errors and unreliable device communication.
  • Can I connect Garmin or Simrad devices to this backbone? Third-party NMEA 2000 devices (Garmin, Simrad, Navico, Furuno) can connect to a SeaTalkNG backbone using the appropriate NMEA 2000 to SeaTalkNG adapter. Device compatibility depends on the data types each device broadcasts and accepts.
  • Does this kit include spur cables to individual devices? No. Individual device spur cables are not included and must be sourced separately — confirm the spur cable length and connector type required for each device being connected to the network.

Common Issues: The most frequent installation problem is a missing or incorrectly seated terminator — both backbone ends must be terminated or the network will report errors and devices may drop off intermittently. Buyers also occasionally confuse SeaTalkNG spur cables with backbone cables: spur cables connect individual devices to the T-piece, while backbone cable runs between T-pieces. Spur cables are not included in this kit and must be sourced separately for each device. If connecting non-Raymarine NMEA 2000 devices, confirm you have the correct adapter cable — plugging a Micro-C connector directly into a SeaTalkNG T-piece will not make a proper connection.
