The DC006 is the right cap for GM V6 inboards and stern drives using the newer “Module in Cap” distributor design — where the ignition control module is built into the cap itself rather than mounted on the distributor body. This is a key distinction from the older Thunderbolt HEI and Delco HVS designs: if your engine has a separate ignition module mounted on the distributor, this is not the correct cap. The most common mistake is ordering by engine displacement alone — a V6 MerCruiser can use several different distributor configurations depending on the model year and production range. Confirm your distributor style (Module in Cap vs. external module) before ordering. Always replace the rotor at the same time — caps and rotors wear together and should be serviced as a pair.
