Racor 120AS Fuel/Water Separator Filter – Diesel & Gas | 2 Micron | 15 GPH
Part Number: 120AS (distributor SKU: 62-120AS)
Brand: Racor
Series: 100 Series
Type: Spin-on fuel filter / water separator assembly
Fuel compatibility: Diesel and gasoline
Filtration rating: 2 micron
Replacement element: R12S (2 micron spin-on)
Product Overview
The Racor 120AS is a compact spin-on fuel filter/water separator from Racor’s 100 Series, designed for smaller diesel and gasoline engines where space is limited. The 2-micron Aquabloc® II spin-on element removes both fine particulate contamination and separated water before fuel reaches the engine. A clear bowl provides at-a-glance water and contamination level inspection without disassembly, and includes a leak-proof positive-seal drain for easy servicing. The metal housing is standard.
- Filtration: 2-micron Aquabloc® II spin-on replaceable element
- Separates water and removes solid contamination from diesel or gasoline fuel
- Clear bowl for visual water and contamination inspection — will not discolor from alcohol, fuel additives, or UV exposure
- Leak-proof positive-seal drain for easy element and water service
- Fuel ports: 1/4"-18 NPTF female inlet and outlet
- Unitized mounting bracket included
- Maximum allowable pressure: 70 PSI
- Maximum flow: 15 GPH / 57 LPH (diesel) | 35 GPH / 132 LPH (gasoline)
- Metal housing — standard
- Weight: 1,512 g (packaged)
Compatible Applications
- Smaller diesel marine engines requiring 2-micron pre-engine filtration
- Smaller gasoline marine engines where a compact spin-on water-separating filter is specified
- Generator sets with low-flow diesel or gasoline fuel systems
- Pressure washers and auxiliary engines with 1/4" NPT fuel connections within the 120AS flow and pressure limits
- Any fuel system requiring 1/4"-18 NPTF port connections and a 2-micron filtration level within 70 PSI maximum system pressure
Fitment Note: Confirm the engine or equipment manufacturer’s required filtration rating, maximum fuel-flow demand, line size, and maximum allowable system restriction before installation. The 120AS is rated to 15 GPH diesel / 35 GPH gasoline at 70 PSI maximum. If your system requires 100 PSI capability or a 10-micron element, see the Racor 110A (10 micron, 100 PSI).
Part Number Reference
- Racor assembly: 120AS
- Distributor SKU: 62-120AS
- Replacement 2-micron element: R12S
- Related assembly (10 micron, 100 PSI): Racor 110A
Service Intervals
- Replace the spin-on filter element per the engine or equipment manufacturer’s service schedule
- Inspect the clear bowl at each use for visible water accumulation or contamination — drain and service as needed before water reaches the element
- Service sooner if fuel flow restriction is observed or if the engine develops fuel-starvation symptoms
Installation Notes
- Mount the assembly securely with the clear bowl oriented downward for water collection and inspection
- Provide sufficient clearance below the bowl for spin-on element removal and bowl draining during service
- Use compatible fuel fittings and approved fuel-system thread sealant on all threaded connections
- Prime the filter with clean fuel before initial start-up as required
- Inspect all connections for leaks before and after the first run
Technical FAQ
What is the difference between the 120AS and the 110A? The 120AS uses a 2-micron spin-on element (R12S) with a clear inspection bowl and is rated to 70 PSI maximum. The 110A uses a 10-micron cartridge element (R11T), has a metal housing without a clear bowl, and is rated to 100 PSI — making it suitable for fuel-injected gasoline engines with higher working pressures. Choose based on your required micron rating, pressure specification, and element style.
What is Aquabloc® II? Aquabloc® II is Racor’s high-capacity water-absorbing filter media used in their spin-on elements. It stops water and removes solid contamination simultaneously, providing a clear indication of contamination level in the bowl.
Can I use the 120AS on a fuel-injected engine? Check the engine manufacturer’s pressure and flow requirements. The 120AS is rated to 70 PSI maximum — if the fuel-injection system operates above that pressure, the 110A or a higher-pressure Racor series is required.

Parts Desk Insights
The 120AS is the 2-micron spin-on version of Racor’s compact 100 Series — it’s the better choice over the 110A when the customer needs finer particulate filtration and a clear bowl for water inspection, and their system pressure stays within 70 PSI. The most common ordering question is the micron rating: customers replacing an existing unit should confirm whether the original was 2-micron or 10-micron before ordering. The clear bowl on the 120AS is a significant advantage for visual maintenance checks, but it also means the bowl is plastic — remind customers not to use petroleum-based solvents on it during cleaning. Always confirm the element part number (R12S for 2 micron) when a customer needs a replacement element for the 120AS.
