What This Kit Does
The Raymarine T70134 SeaTalk NG Starter Kit contains everything needed to build the foundation of a SeaTalk NG backbone network on your boat. SeaTalk NG is Raymarine's implementation of the NMEA 2000 standard — a powered single-backbone network that lets compatible chartplotters, autopilots, instruments, transducers, and sensors share data across one cable system.
This kit gives you a complete, ready-to-connect backbone with one spur connection point. As your system grows, additional backbone cables, T-pieces, and spur cables can be added to connect more devices.
Kit Contents
- A06064 — SeaTalk NG 5-Way Connector Block × 1 — the central hub that starts your backbone and provides spur connection points
- A06031 — SeaTalk NG Backbone Terminator × 2 — one for each end of the backbone (both required for proper network operation)
- A06040 — SeaTalk NG Spur Cable 3m × 1 — connects your first SeaTalk NG device to the backbone
- A06049 — SeaTalk NG Power Cable × 1 — supplies 12V DC power to the backbone
Compatible Applications
- Starting a new SeaTalk NG / NMEA 2000 network from scratch on any vessel
- Connecting Raymarine chartplotters, autopilots, instrument displays, depth/speed/wind transducers, and AIS units to a shared network backbone
- Integrating third-party NMEA 2000-certified devices alongside Raymarine equipment
- Small to medium installations requiring one spur connection to start, expandable as more devices are added
Dimensions & Weight
- Weight: Approx. 454 g (packaged kit)
- Spur Cable Length Included: 3 m (A06040)
- Backbone Terminators: 2 × A06031 (one per backbone end)
Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: The ideal starting point for any new Raymarine SeaTalk NG installation. If you're fitting your first chartplotter, autopilot, or instrument and want everything in one box to get the backbone running, this kit covers you. It's also the right choice when upgrading from an older Raymarine SeaTalk (Classic) system to the modern SeaTalk NG standard.
Common Issues: The most frequent install issue is forgetting that both terminators must be installed — one at each end of the backbone — for the network to function correctly. A missing terminator will result in intermittent data loss or devices not appearing on the network. Also confirm your device connects via a spur cable (this kit includes one 3m spur); if your device needs a DeviceNet adaptor instead of a standard SeaTalk NG spur, see the adaptor cables below.
Expanding Your Network
This starter kit supports one spur connection. To add more devices or extend your backbone, the following components are commonly added:
- Raymarine A06064 SeaTalk NG 5-Way Connector Block — additional multi-port backbone nodes
- Raymarine A06028 SeaTalk NG T-Piece Connector — add individual spur connection points along the backbone
- Raymarine A06033 Backbone Cable – 400mm — short backbone extension
- Raymarine A06034 Backbone Cable – 1m — standard backbone extension
- Raymarine A06036 Backbone Cable – 5m — long backbone run
- Raymarine A06082 NMEA 2000 (DeviceNet) Female to SeaTalk NG Straight Adaptor — connect DeviceNet-plug devices to the backbone
- Raymarine A06045 DeviceNet Female to SeaTalk NG Adaptor Cable (0.4M) — short cable adaptor for DeviceNet devices
- Raymarine A06076 SeaTalkNG to DeviceNet Male Adaptor Cable – 1M — 1m DeviceNet adaptor cable
- Raymarine E22158 SeaTalk NG Backbone Kit — larger pre-configured backbone kit for bigger installations
Service Interval
No scheduled service interval. Inspect all connector seals, locking collars, and cable jacket condition annually or whenever servicing connected devices. Ensure backbone power supply connections remain corrosion-free. Replace any component showing cracking, corrosion, or intermittent connectivity.
Technical FAQ
- How many devices can I connect with this starter kit? The kit includes one 3m spur cable, so you can connect one device immediately. Additional spur cables and T-pieces or 5-way connector blocks can be added to expand the network.
- Is SeaTalk NG the same as NMEA 2000? Yes — SeaTalk NG is Raymarine's implementation of the NMEA 2000 standard. SeaTalk NG and NMEA 2000 devices are electrically compatible; adaptor cables may be needed where connector styles differ (DeviceNet vs. SeaTalk NG locking collar).
- Do both terminators need to be installed? Yes — this is essential. NMEA 2000 / SeaTalk NG networks require exactly one terminator at each end of the backbone. Running without terminators or with only one will cause unreliable network behaviour.
- Can I mix Raymarine and non-Raymarine NMEA 2000 devices on this backbone? Yes, provided the third-party devices are NMEA 2000 certified. Connector adaptors may be required depending on the device's connector type.
- What is the difference between this kit and the E22158 Backbone Kit? The E22158 is a larger kit that includes additional backbone cables for longer runs. This T70134 starter kit is the entry-level option for a basic one-spur installation.
