The Sherwood 27000K is a large, heavy-duty flexible impeller service kit for compatible Sherwood P270-series raw-water pumps. Its 12-blade neoprene impeller uses an 11-tooth splined hub and is designed for high-volume engine-cooling applications, including selected Cummins marine diesel installations. Sherwood kits ending in “K” include the impeller, required gasket and O-ring, plus service instructions.

Engine Compatibility
The strongest documented engine association is with selected Cummins marine diesel applications using Cummins impeller number 3974456. Current cross-reference information also places this impeller in certain Cummins QSB raw-water pump installations. Exact engine compatibility should be confirmed through the installed Sherwood pump number or the engine cooling-system parts diagram.
Fitment Notice
Do not select this impeller by engine make alone. Confirm that the installed pump requires:
- Sherwood 27000K
- Approximately 84 mm outside diameter
- Approximately 73 mm width
- Approximately 20 mm shaft diameter
- 11-tooth splined hub
- 12-blade neoprene construction
The 27000K is similar in overall size to Sherwood 17000K, but the 17000K uses a keyed 5/8-inch hub rather than the 11-tooth spline used on 27000K.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the impeller when:
- Raw-water discharge becomes weak or intermittent
- Engine operating temperature begins increasing
- Cooling-system or exhaust-temperature alarms activate
- Impeller blades are cracked, torn, hardened or permanently bent
- Pieces are missing from the impeller
- The splined hub is worn or slipping
- The pump has operated without an adequate water supply
- The pump has ingested sand, silt or debris
- The scheduled cooling-system service interval has been reached
A partially damaged impeller may continue turning while delivering substantially reduced cooling-water flow.
Installation Notes
Before installation:
- Shut down the engine and isolate the starting system
- Close the raw-water seacock
- Remove the pump cover and existing gasket
- Use Sherwood impeller puller 25106 (designed specifically for the 27000K series) or the Sherwood insert/puller system
- Recover all broken impeller fragments from the pump and downstream cooling system
- Inspect the pump cover, cam, housing and shaft splines
- Lubricate the new impeller with glycerine, soapy water or an approved rubber-safe lubricant
- Align the 11-tooth splines carefully
- Install the supplied gasket and O-ring
- Reassemble the pump according to the Sherwood service guide
- Reopen the seacock and confirm strong water flow before operating under load
Never operate the flexible impeller pump dry.

Several Sherwood impellers share similar diameters and widths, so the spline count and installed pump model are the most reliable identifiers. The most common mix-up is with the 17000K, which looks nearly identical but uses a keyed 5/8-inch hub — not a spline. Always confirm the hub type before ordering.
