Sierra 18-7906-2 4-Cycle Outboard Oil Filter – Yamaha F150–F250 V6 & Mercury/Mariner F225
Part Number: 18-7906-2 | SKU: 47-79062 | Supersedes: Sierra 18-7906-1 | UPC: 808282382537
The Sierra 18-7906-2 is a marine spin-on oil filter for selected Yamaha 150–250 HP V6 4-stroke outboards and compatible Mercury/Mariner F225 4-stroke applications. It supersedes the earlier Sierra 18-7906-1. It uses a 3/4–16 thread, heavy-wall steel canister with epoxy corrosion protection, high-efficiency filter media, and an anti-drain-back valve that retains oil in the filter during shutdown to help reduce dry-start conditions.

- Mercury/Mariner F225 4-stroke outboards specifying Mercury 35-822626T7 or Quicksilver 35-822626Q15 / 8M0154769
Fitment Note: Confirm your engine model, model year, and existing OEM filter number before ordering. The strongest Yamaha identifier is a 69J-13440-series part number on the current filter. For Mercury/Mariner applications, match Quicksilver 35-822626Q15 or 8M0154769. The 3/4‑16 thread helps distinguish this filter from other Yamaha oil filter families.
Service Interval
Replace at every scheduled engine oil service. Follow the outboard manufacturer’s recommended interval for your specific engine model — typically every 100 hours or once per season, whichever comes first.
Installation Notes
- Remove the old filter and confirm the old gasket has come away with it — a retained gasket will cause an oil leak
- Clean the filter mounting surface
- Lightly coat the new filter gasket with fresh engine oil before threading it on
- Tighten by hand plus ¾ turn, or per engine manufacturer specification — do not over-tighten
- Run the engine and inspect for leaks before returning to service

Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: Routine oil and filter changes on Yamaha F150 through F250 V6 4-stroke outboards — one of the most popular high-horsepower outboard families on the water — and on Mercury/Mariner F225 4-stroke applications. The 69J-series is Yamaha’s primary oil filter reference for their V6 4-stroke outboard lineup, making this a high-volume service filter for any shop working on larger Yamaha 4-stroke outboards. This version (18-7906-2) supersedes the earlier 18-7906-1 and is the current Sierra part number.
Common Issues: Yamaha uses multiple oil filter references across their 4-stroke outboard lineup, and some filters look similar. The safest fitment confirmation is matching a 69J-13440-series number on the current filter. For Mercury/Mariner applications, confirm by Quicksilver 8M0154769 or 35-822626Q15. Customers sometimes search for the older 18-7906-1 — the 18-7906-2 is the current replacement. As with all spin-on filters, remind customers to verify the old gasket comes off with the old filter before installing the new one.
