Designed for Mercury and Mariner outboard applications — always confirm fitment against Sierra's current application guide by engine horsepower, model, and year before ordering. Mercury outboards are sensitive to impeller condition; a worn or heat-set impeller can cause overheating and powerhead damage quickly. Replace on a seasonal schedule or every 100–200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. During service: remove the lower unit, inspect the pump housing, wear plate, and cam for scoring or grooves — replace the housing if damaged, as a scored housing will destroy a new impeller rapidly. Lubricate the impeller with dish soap or glycerin only — never petroleum-based products. Never run the engine out of water, even briefly. After installation, verify water flow from the tell-tale before returning the boat to service.
