What This Hose Is For
Trident Series 166 is a reinforced PVC hot-water hose built for pressurized marine potable-water installations. Its FDA-grade tube is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless — safe for onboard drinking water systems. The translucent red color identifies hot-water runs at a glance, and the 3-ply polyester reinforcement keeps the hose stable under pressure while maintaining flexibility for routing in tight spaces.
Series 166 is the hot-water counterpart to Trident Series 165 cold water hose (blue). Pairing the two keeps hot and cold runs visually distinct throughout the vessel using the same reinforced PVC construction and 1/2-inch sizing.
This hose is not rated for fuel, raw-water intake, or below-waterline service. Its documented application is pressurized hot-water feed, drain, and vent lines above the waterline.
Compatible Applications
- Pressurized hot potable-water lines from water heater to fixtures
- Hot-water feed lines aboard recreational and commercial vessels
- Above-waterline freshwater drain and vent lines
- Onboard hot-water plumbing within the hose’s temperature and pressure ratings

Fitment Notice
This is a 1/2-inch ID hose. Confirm that hose barbs, fittings, and plumbing connections are sized for 1/2-inch hose before ordering. Do not use this hose for fuel, sanitation discharge, or below-waterline raw-water intake — those applications require hose specifically rated for those conditions. Verify that routing does not expose the hose to temperatures or heat sources above its 149°F / 65°C maximum rating.
When to Replace
- Cracking, hardening, or brittleness in the hose wall
- Bulging, soft spots, or delamination
- Abrasion through the outer wall
- Kinking that restricts flow
- Persistent leakage at fittings or clamp bands
- Heat damage or discoloration near the water heater connection
- Contamination affecting potable-water suitability
Installation Notes
- Cut the hose squarely for a proper barb fit and full clamp engagement
- Install over correctly sized 1/2-inch hose-barb fittings
- Use marine-grade hose clamps appropriate to the system pressure
- Maintain a minimum bend radius of approximately 0.98 in. / 25 mm
- Route away from exhaust components, sharp edges, and heat sources that exceed the hose’s temperature rating
- Do not use below the waterline or for fuel service
Service Interval
Inspect annually or at each haul-out. For potable-water systems, also inspect if water taste or odor changes. Pay particular attention to the hose run nearest the water heater — heat cycling at that connection point accelerates wear. Replace at the first sign of cracking, hardening, bulging, or leakage.
Technical FAQ
Is this hose safe for drinking water?
Yes. The Series 166 tube is FDA-grade — non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless — making it suitable for pressurized hot potable-water lines aboard a vessel.
What is the maximum temperature this hose can handle?
149°F / 65°C. This covers typical marine water heater output temperatures. If your water heater delivers water above this temperature at the hose connection, confirm whether a higher-rated hose is required.
What is the difference between Series 165 and Series 166?
Series 165 is the blue cold-water version; Series 166 is the red hot-water version. Both share the same 1/2-inch ID, 3-ply reinforced PVC construction, FDA-grade tube, and 250 PSI working pressure. The difference is color-coding and intended plumbing circuit.
Can I use this hose below the waterline?
No. Series 166 is designed for above-waterline hot-water plumbing only. Below-waterline intake applications require hose specifically constructed and rated for that service.
What fittings work with this hose?
Standard 1/2-inch hose-barb fittings in bronze, stainless, or plastic rated for potable-water and hot-water service. Confirm barb sizing and material compatibility with your system temperature before installing.
Parts Desk Insights
Series 166 is the red hot-water pairing to Trident’s blue Series 165. The main reason to stock both is the colour-coding — on a vessel with separate hot and cold freshwater circuits, being able to identify runs without tracing every line back to the tank or heater saves real time during service. The construction and ratings are identical between the two, so the choice is simply red for hot, blue for cold. The one thing to double-check at the water heater end: confirm the hose run nearest the heat source stays within the 149°F rating — that’s where heat-related degradation shows up first.
