Xantrex 8171050 Freedom XC Inverter/Charger, 1000W

The Xantrex Freedom XC 1000 combines a 1,000-watt true sine wave inverter, a programmable 50-amp battery charger and an automatic 30-amp AC transfer relay in one compact 12-volt unit. Designed for marine, RV, commercial truck and specialty-vehicle electrical systems, it supplies clean AC power from the battery bank and automatically recharges the batteries when shore power or another approved AC source becomes available.

Certification and Marine Installation Notice

The Freedom XC 1000 is ETL listed to CSA 107.1, UL 458 and the UL 458 Marine Supplement. Xantrex specifies marine drip shield part number 808-1050 when UL 458 Marine Supplement compliance is required. Marine installations must also follow applicable ABYC E-11 and A-31 requirements for conductor sizing, grounding, overcurrent protection, battery installation and equipment placement.

Fitment Notice

Confirm that the installation uses a nominal 12-volt battery bank. At full inverter output, the Freedom XC 1000 can draw approximately 100 amps from the DC system, so the battery bank, conductors, fuse and disconnect must be sized for the expected continuous and surge loads.

This model provides 1,000 watts of inverter output and a 50-amp charger. It should not be confused with the Freedom X 1000 (817-1000), which is an inverter-only model and does not include a battery charger.

When This Product Needs Replacement

Inspect or replace the inverter/charger if it repeatedly shuts down under loads it previously supported, fails to switch correctly between external AC and inverter power, no longer follows its programmed charging profile or produces recurring overload, low-voltage or over-temperature faults.

Before replacing the unit, test the battery bank, DC cable voltage drop, incoming AC supply and external circuit protection. Weak batteries, loose terminals and undersized conductors can cause symptoms similar to inverter or charger failure.

Installation Notes

Install the Freedom XC in a dry, ventilated location protected from water, excessive heat and fuel vapours. Use correctly sized marine-grade DC conductors, a properly rated battery fuse and a readily accessible battery disconnect. Keep DC cable runs as short as practical and follow the Xantrex installation guide for mounting orientation, grounding, ventilation clearance and AC wiring.

The 808-1050 drip shield is required when the installation must comply with the UL 458 Marine Supplement.
