When your NMEA 2000 device is mounted far from the backbone tee — think a sensor at the bow, a display at a second helm station, or an instrument routed through a bulkhead — this 16 ft (5 m) drop cable gives you the reach to make a clean, direct connection without splicing or extending. It’s the longest drop cable in the Ancor N2K lineup, and like all Ancor drop cables, it’s thinner and more flexible than backbone cable for easy routing through tight spaces, conduit, and cable trays.

Drop Cable vs. Backbone Cable

Drop cables connect individual devices to the network — they are not backbone cable and should not be used to extend the main trunk. For backbone runs, see the Ancor NMEA 2000 Backbone Cable – 6.5 ft (270002) or the 32 ft Backbone Cable (270010). Every NMEA 2000 network requires terminators at each end of the backbone.

Best use case: The 16 ft drop is the right call for long runs — bow sensors on a 30+ ft boat, flybridge displays, or any device that’s simply too far from the tee for a shorter cable to reach cleanly. One important note: NMEA 2000 drop cables have a maximum recommended length of 6 meters (about 20 ft), so this 5 m cable stays within spec.
