The Garmin GMR™ xHD3 18" Radar Dome packs open-array-class performance into one of the most compact dome footprints available. With 4 kW of magnetron output, a 48-nautical-mile maximum range, and rotation speeds up to 60 RPM, it delivers high-definition target imaging and fast screen updates — plus Garmin’s Advanced Scan Averaging Technology, a first for magnetron dome radars, which actively filters sea clutter for a cleaner, more readable display.
Key Features
- 4 kW transmit power — strong returns at distance for confident coastal and offshore navigation
- 48-nautical-mile maximum range — extended coverage well beyond typical dome radar performance
- Advanced Scan Averaging Technology — reduces sea clutter and interference for a cleaner display in rough conditions
- Up to 60 RPM rotation speed — fast target updates suited to higher-speed vessels and busy waterways
- Dual-Range mode — simultaneously displays close-in and distant radar images in a split-screen view
- Compact 18" dome — fits T-tops, arches, and mast locations where a 24" dome won’t clear
- Quiet dome drive motor — low-noise operation suitable for helm stations and flybridge installations
18" vs. 24" — Which Size Is Right?
Both dome sizes share the same xHD3 feature set and 48 NM range. The 18" dome is the right choice when mounting space is limited or the vessel is under 35 ft. If your arch or mast can accommodate a larger antenna, the GMR™ xHD3 24" Radar Dome offers improved bearing resolution thanks to its larger aperture.

Parts Desk Insights
Best use case: The GMR™ xHD3 18" is the top choice for boaters who want the full xHD3 feature set — Scan Averaging, 60 RPM, Dual-Range, 48 NM — but are working with a tight mounting location or a vessel under 35 ft. It’s a strong upgrade path from the GMR™ 18 HD3, adding Scan Averaging and a 12 NM range extension at a modest price step. Anglers running offshore in the 25–40 ft range will benefit most from the fast rotation and clutter rejection in following seas. Like all GMR domes, it connects to any compatible Garmin GPSMAP or echoMAP chartplotter via a single cable and supports dual-radar mode when paired with a compatible Garmin MFD. Boaters with available arch space on vessels 35 ft and up should consider the 24" xHD3 for better bearing resolution.
