Product Overview
The Racor 320R-RAC-02 is a complete 10-micron gasoline fuel/water separator assembly designed for inboard and sterndrive marine engines. It combines a three-port aluminum mounting head, a spin-on Aquabloc® II filter element, and a reusable metal collection bowl. USCG regulations require flame-resistant metal bowls on below-deck gasoline installations — the 320R-RAC-02 is the correct version for engine rooms, below-deck fuel systems, and inboard/sterndrive applications where a clear plastic bowl is not permitted. The metal bowl is drained via a drain plug rather than a self-venting drain; the mounting head and bowl are reusable, with only the spin-on element (S3228TUL) requiring periodic replacement.
- Complete assembly — aluminum 3-port mounting head, 10-micron spin-on filter element, and metal bowl included
- 10-micron Aquabloc® II filter media removes up to 99% of free water and fine particulate contamination
- Metal collection bowl — flame-resistant, USCG-compliant for below-deck gasoline installations
- Metal bowl drain plug for water and contamination removal during service
- Electrostatically applied powder-coat head for superior corrosion resistance
- Replaceable spin-on filter element: S3228TUL
- Max flow: 60 GPH / 227 LPH
- Ports: 1/4"-18 NPTF (3-port head)
- Max pressure: 7 PSI
- Fuel type: Gasoline only
- Dimensions: 8.75" H x 3.9" W x 4.02" D
- Weight: approx. 600 g / 1.34 lb
Below-Deck / Inboard Use: USCG regulations require flame-resistant metal bowls for gasoline fuel filter/water separators installed below deck. The 320R-RAC-02 metal bowl version meets this requirement. For outboard or above-deck installations where a clear bowl is permitted, see the Racor 320R-RAC-01 with clear bowl.
Compatible Applications
- Inboard gasoline engine fuel systems requiring a below-deck metal-bowl separator with 1/4"-18 NPTF fuel connections
- Sterndrive (inboard/outboard) engine fuel systems with below-deck fuel filter locations
- Engine room and below-deck gasoline fuel system installations where USCG metal-bowl regulations apply
- Any inboard or sterndrive gasoline fuel system with fuel-flow demand within 60 GPH / 7 PSI
Fitment Note: Confirm the engine’s actual fuel-flow demand is within 60 GPH and that the fuel lines are compatible with 1/4"-18 NPTF fittings before ordering. This assembly is rated for gasoline only — not for diesel fuel systems.
Dimensions
- Height: 8.75" / 22.23 cm
- Width: 3.9" / 9.91 cm
- Depth: 4.02" / 10.21 cm
- Required service clearance below filter: at least 2" / 5.1 cm for element removal
Service Information
Replace the S3228TUL spin-on filter element per the engine or fuel-system manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, or sooner if fuel restriction symptoms develop, contamination is found, or water accumulation in the metal bowl is excessive. Inspect and drain the metal bowl at each service using the drain plug. The mounting head and metal bowl are reusable — only the spin-on element requires replacement.

Technical FAQ
What is the replacement filter element for the 320R-RAC-02? The replacement spin-on filter element is the Racor S3228TUL (10 micron). Note this is a different element from the clear-bowl 320R-RAC-01, which uses the S3227. The mounting head and metal bowl are reusable.
Why does the inboard version use a metal bowl instead of a clear bowl? USCG regulations require flame-resistant metal bowls on gasoline fuel filter/water separators installed below deck. The metal bowl on the 320R-RAC-02 meets this requirement. Clear plastic bowls are only permitted for outboard and above-deck installations.
What is the difference between 320R-RAC-02 and 320R-RAC-01? The 320R-RAC-02 has a metal bowl for below-deck / inboard / sterndrive installations. The 320R-RAC-01 has a clear bowl for outboard and above-deck use. They also use different replacement elements — S3228TUL for the 320R-RAC-02 and S3227 for the 320R-RAC-01.
What is the port thread size? The three-port aluminum mounting head uses 1/4"-18 NPTF threads. Confirm your fuel line fittings are compatible before installation.
How do I drain water from the metal bowl? The metal bowl uses a drain plug (not a self-venting drain). Remove the plug to drain accumulated water and debris during service, then reinstall and check for leaks before returning to service.

Parts Desk Insights
The 320R-RAC-02 is the below-deck / inboard version of the 320R — the metal bowl is the critical distinction and the reason this version exists. The single most important question to ask a customer is where the filter will be installed: above deck or outboard (clear bowl, 320R-RAC-01) vs. below deck or inboard/sterndrive (metal bowl, 320R-RAC-02). Also confirm the replacement element: the 320R-RAC-02 uses S3228TUL, not the S3227 used in the clear-bowl version — customers sometimes order the wrong element when they have the metal-bowl assembly. The bowl drain plug should be checked for tightness at every service — a loose drain plug is the most common cause of post-service fuel leaks on metal-bowl assemblies.
