The Sea-Dog Safety Kill Switch is a panel-mounted marine emergency cut-off that stops the engine the moment the operator is separated from the helm. Attach the coiled lanyard to your life jacket or wrist while underway — if you fall overboard or leave the controls, the lanyard pulls free, trips the switch and cuts power before the boat can run unmanned. Dual-circuit wiring supports both ignition-kill and magneto-kill configurations, making it compatible with a wide range of outboard and inboard engines without requiring a model-specific switch.
Key Features
- Dual-circuit design: wires for ignition kill or magneto kill depending on the engine
- Weatherproof injection-moulded nylon and Delrin housing
- 1/4 in brass terminals for corrosion-resistant connections
- Coiled lanyard: approximately 15 in coiled / 48 in extended
- 5/8 in mounting hole diameter
- Maximum panel thickness: 3/8 in
- Maximum current draw: 5 A
- Replace lanyard if worn, cut or frayed
- Test before each outing
- Weight: 70 g / 2.5 oz
Intended Use
Suitable for outboard-powered boats, personal watercraft and other small craft where a helm-mounted ignition cut-off is required or recommended. The dual-circuit design makes it compatible with a wide range of engine types without requiring a dedicated model-specific switch.
Fitment Notice
Panel cutout requires a 5/8 in hole and the panel must be no thicker than 3/8 in. Maximum circuit draw must not exceed 5 A. Confirm that your engine’s ignition system is compatible with either ignition-kill or magneto-kill wiring before installation. For a lanyard-only replacement that plugs directly into an outboard’s kill-switch receptacle, see the Sea-Dog 7-Key Universal Kill Switch with Lanyard or the Sea-Dog 10-Key Universal Kill Switch with Lanyard.
Installation and Use Notes
Mount the switch at the helm within easy reach of the operator. Route and connect wiring according to the dual-circuit diagram supplied with the switch. Attach the lanyard to the operator’s life jacket or wrist before getting underway. Inspect the lanyard before each use and replace it at the first sign of wear or damage.

Parts Desk Insight
This is the base panel-mount dual-circuit kill switch in the Sea-Dog line — a solid choice when a customer needs a helm-mounted cut-off and isn’t sure whether their engine uses ignition-kill or magneto-kill wiring, since this switch handles both. If the customer already has a working panel switch and only needs a replacement lanyard, point them to the 7-key or 10-key lanyard instead. Always recommend testing the switch before each outing and replacing the lanyard at the first sign of wear.
