Raymarine A06028 SeaTalkNG T-Piece Connector

The Raymarine A06028 is a SeaTalkNG T-piece connector that creates a single spur (device) connection point on a SeaTalkNG backbone while allowing the backbone to continue in both directions. Each T-piece adds one branch where a SeaTalkNG-compatible display, instrument, sensor, or power cable can be connected β€” one T-piece per device attachment point. Multiple T-pieces are daisy-chained along the backbone to build out a full multi-device network.

SeaTalkNG is Raymarine’s NMEA 2000-compatible marine networking standard. The A06028 T-piece is the fundamental building block of any SeaTalkNG network expansion beyond what is included in a starter or backbone kit.

How SeaTalkNG T-Pieces Work

A SeaTalkNG network consists of a backbone cable running through the vessel, with T-piece connectors inserted at each point where a device needs to connect. The two blue ports on the T-piece pass the backbone signal through to the next T-piece or to a terminator at each end. The white spur port branches off the backbone to connect one device via a spur cable. Every powered SeaTalkNG backbone must have a terminator plug at each open end β€” without terminators, the network will produce errors and devices may disconnect intermittently.

SeaTalkNG Network Topology Notes

  • One T-piece per device: Each device connected to the network requires its own T-piece spur port. Plan T-piece count based on the number of devices to be connected.

  • Backbone cable between T-pieces: T-pieces are connected to each other by backbone cable segments β€” see the A06033 SeaTalkNG Backbone Cable (400 mm) for short runs between adjacent T-pieces.
  • Spur cables to devices: The spur port on each T-piece connects to the device via a spur cable of appropriate length β€” see the A06040 SeaTalkNG Spur Cable (3 m).
  • Network power: The SeaTalkNG backbone requires a dedicated power cable (included in backbone kits). Devices draw power from the backbone via their spur connection.

  • How many T-pieces do I need? One T-piece per device being connected to the network. Count every device that will have a spur connection β€” chartplotter, autopilot, GPS receiver, instruments, wind sensor, depth transducer β€” and order one A06028 per device, plus additional backbone cable to span between them.
  • Do I need backbone cable between T-pieces? Yes. T-pieces connect to each other via backbone cable segments. The A06028 T-piece itself does not include backbone cable. Short inter-T-piece runs typically use the A06033 (400 mm); longer runs between locations use longer backbone cable from the A25062 backbone kit.
  • Is this compatible with NMEA 2000 devices? Yes, via a SeaTalkNG to DeviceNet adapter cable. SeaTalkNG uses the same electrical standard as NMEA 2000 but with Raymarine’s proprietary connector format. The adapter cable bridges the two connector types.
  • Can I use this with an Ancor or Garmin NMEA 2000 backbone? The A06028 T-piece uses SeaTalkNG connectors and is designed for SeaTalkNG backbones. For connection to a Micro-C NMEA 2000 backbone, the A06045 DeviceNet-to-SeaTalkNG spur adaptor may be the more direct approach.
