System Overview
SeaTalkNG is Raymarine’s networking standard for onboard electronics, physically and electrically compatible with NMEA 2000. The backbone carries both data and 12 V DC power, with devices tapped off the backbone at T-piece connectors using spur cables. Every SeaTalkNG backbone must be terminated at both open ends using terminator plugs — both are included in this kit. The backbone power cable connects the backbone to your vessel’s 12 V DC supply.
Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: This kit is the right starting point for any new SeaTalkNG installation. Rather than sourcing individual backbone cables, T-pieces, terminators, and a power cable separately, the E22158 gives you a verified set of Raymarine components sized for a typical mid-sized vessel backbone. It’s especially useful for first-time SeaTalkNG builds where having the right termination hardware from the start avoids the most common network startup issues.
Common Issues: The most frequent problem customers encounter is an unterminated backbone — both ends of the backbone trunk must have terminator plugs installed (included in this kit) or the network will not initialize correctly. Also note that this kit provides the backbone infrastructure only; spur cables to connect individual devices are purchased separately depending on each device’s port and distance. If you need to connect non-Raymarine NMEA 2000 devices to this backbone, you’ll also need a DeviceNet adaptor.

Technical FAQ
How many devices can connect to this backbone?
The kit includes 4 T-piece connectors, providing 4 spur drop points. You can add additional T-pieces or a 5-way connector block to increase the number of connection points. SeaTalkNG supports up to 50 nodes on a single backbone.
Do I need spur cables?
Yes — spur cables run from each T-piece to individual devices. The spur cable length and connector type depends on each device. Spur cables are not included in this kit.
Is SeaTalkNG compatible with NMEA 2000?
SeaTalkNG is electrically compatible with NMEA 2000 but uses Raymarine’s proprietary blue connectors. Use an adaptor cable (such as the A06076 or A06082) to integrate NMEA 2000 DeviceNet devices into the SeaTalkNG backbone.
Can I extend the backbone beyond the cables in this kit?
Yes — backbone cables can be chained end-to-end via T-pieces. Order additional backbone cable lengths as needed to reach your full installation span.
