Raymarine A06031 SeaTalkng Backbone Terminator
Part Number: A06031 (distributor SKU: 152-A06031)
Brand: Raymarine
Type: SeaTalkng backbone terminator
Network: SeaTalkng (NMEA 2000-compatible)
Product Overview
Genuine Raymarine SeaTalkng backbone terminator. A correctly terminated backbone is essential for reliable data communication on any SeaTalkng or NMEA 2000-compatible marine network. One terminator must be installed at each end of the backbone — a network with missing or incorrect terminators will produce communication errors, device dropouts, or complete network failure.
- Genuine Raymarine SeaTalkng backbone terminator
- Required at both ends of a SeaTalkng backbone for correct network operation
- Compatible with Raymarine SeaTalkng network components and NMEA 2000-compatible devices via appropriate adaptors
- Compact plug-in design — installs directly into the backbone connector port
- Part Number: A06031
Compatible Applications
- Any Raymarine SeaTalkng backbone installation requiring end termination
- New SeaTalkng network builds using the Raymarine SeaTalkng Starter Kit or equivalent components
- Expanding or repairing existing SeaTalkng backbones where a terminator has been lost or damaged
- NMEA 2000 networks using SeaTalkng backbone components with the appropriate DeviceNet adaptor
Installation Note: Every SeaTalkng backbone requires exactly one terminator at each end — two terminators total per backbone run. Do not leave either end of the backbone unterminated. Installing more than one terminator per end will also cause network problems.

SeaTalkng Network Overview
SeaTalkng is Raymarine’s implementation of the NMEA 2000 marine network standard. It uses a backbone-and-spur architecture: a main backbone cable runs along the vessel, devices connect to the backbone via short spur cables at T-connectors or multi-way connector blocks, and a terminator is required at each end of the backbone to maintain the correct network impedance.
Installation Notes
- Identify both physical ends of the SeaTalkng backbone run
- Plug one terminator into the open port at each end of the backbone
- Ensure no other devices or cables are connected beyond the terminator positions
- Verify network power is connected via the SeaTalkng power cable before powering on devices
- Check that all connected devices appear on the network after power-on
Technical FAQ
Why does a SeaTalkng backbone need terminators? Terminators provide the correct electrical resistance at each end of the backbone to prevent signal reflections that would cause data errors and device dropouts. Without proper termination, the network will not function reliably.
How many terminators does a backbone need? Exactly two — one at each end of the backbone run. A single backbone should never have more or fewer than two terminators.
Can I use this terminator on an NMEA 2000 (DeviceNet) backbone? A06031 is a SeaTalkng connector format terminator. For standard NMEA 2000 DeviceNet backbones, a DeviceNet-format terminator is required. To bridge the two systems, use the Raymarine A06076 SeaTalkng-to-DeviceNet Adaptor Cable.

Parts Desk Insights
The A06031 terminator is one of the most overlooked items when customers build or expand a SeaTalkng network. The most common issue is a new network installation with unexplained device dropouts or communication errors — in most cases, a missing or incorrectly placed terminator is the cause. When a customer reports erratic SeaTalkng network behavior, confirm that both backbone ends are properly terminated with A06031 terminators before troubleshooting anything else. Also remind customers building a new network that the SeaTalkng Starter Kit includes terminators along with the backbone cable and power cable, which may be a better starting point than buying components individually.
