Product Overview

The Racor 660R-RAC-02 is a complete 10-micron high-flow gasoline fuel/water separator assembly designed for inboard and sterndrive marine engines. It combines a die-cast aluminum mounting head rated at 120 GPH, a spin-on Aquabloc® II filter element, and a reusable metal collection bowl. USCG regulations require flame-resistant metal bowls on below-deck gasoline installations — the 660R-RAC-02 meets this requirement and is UL Listed and USCG approved for inboard marine use. Rated at 120 GPH, it is the high-flow choice for larger inboard engines and multi-engine sterndrive applications where the 60 GPH 320R series capacity is insufficient. The metal bowl is drained via a drain plug; the mounting head and bowl are reusable with only the spin-on element (S3228TUL) requiring periodic replacement.

  • Complete high-flow assembly — die-cast aluminum 3-port mounting head, 10-micron spin-on element, and metal bowl included
  • 10-micron Aquabloc® II filter media removes approximately 99% of free water and fine particulate contamination
  • 120 GPH rated flow — suited to high-output inboard and sterndrive applications
  • Metal collection bowl — flame-resistant, USCG-compliant for below-deck gasoline installations
  • Metal bowl drain plug for water and debris removal during service
  • Electrostatically applied powder-coat construction for superior corrosion resistance
  • UL Listed and USCG approved for inboard marine gasoline fuel systems
  • Replaceable spin-on filter element: S3228TUL
  • Ports: 3/8"-18 NPTF | Center thread: 1"-14
  • Max pressure: 7 PSI / 0.5 bar
  • Fuel type: Gasoline only
  • Weight: approx. 1,361 g / 3.0 lb

Below-Deck / Inboard Use: USCG regulations require flame-resistant metal bowls for gasoline fuel filter/water separators installed below deck. The 660R-RAC-02 metal bowl version meets this requirement and is UL Listed and USCG approved. For outboard or above-deck installations where a clear bowl is permitted, see the Racor 660R-RAC-01 with clear bowl.

Compatible Applications

  • High-output inboard gasoline engine fuel systems with 3/8"-18 NPTF fuel connections and flow demand up to 120 GPH
  • Sterndrive (inboard/outboard) engine fuel systems requiring a high-flow below-deck metal-bowl separator
  • Multi-engine inboard or sterndrive gasoline installations where a single high-capacity separator is required
  • Engine room and below-deck gasoline fuel system installations requiring USCG metal-bowl compliance and higher flow than the 60 GPH 320R-RAC-02

Fitment Note: Confirm the engine’s actual fuel-flow demand is within 120 GPH and that fuel lines are compatible with 3/8"-18 NPTF fittings before ordering. This assembly is for gasoline only — not for diesel fuel systems.

660R vs. 320R — Which Do I Need?

The Racor 320R-RAC-02 is rated at 60 GPH with 1/4"-18 NPTF ports — the standard choice for most single inboard or sterndrive applications. The 660R-RAC-02 is rated at 120 GPH with 3/8"-18 NPTF ports — the correct choice for higher-output engines or multi-engine installations where the 320R capacity is insufficient. Both use a metal bowl for below-deck USCG compliance, but use different replacement elements (S3228TUL for both, but confirm port size compatibility).

Service Information

Replace the S3228TUL spin-on filter element per the engine or fuel-system manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, or sooner if fuel restriction symptoms develop, contamination is found, or water accumulation in the metal bowl is excessive. Inspect and drain the metal bowl at each service using the drain plug. The mounting head and metal bowl are reusable — only the spin-on element requires replacement.

Part Number Reference

  • Distributor SKU: 62-660RRAC02
  • Replacement 10-micron spin-on element: S3228TUL
  • Metal bowl kit: RK30473-02
  • Clear-bowl outboard version: Racor 660R-RAC-01
  • Lower-flow 60 GPH metal-bowl version: Racor 320R-RAC-02
  • Lower-flow 60 GPH clear-bowl version: Racor 320R-RAC-01

Installation Notes

  • Mount the assembly securely in an accessible engine room location, in an upright or near-upright orientation
  • Connect fuel lines to the appropriate inlet and outlet ports on the 3/8"-18 NPTF head using compatible fittings
  • Ensure the metal bowl drain plug is securely installed before returning the system to service
  • Allow adequate clearance below the filter element for future spin-on element and bowl servicing
  • After installation, prime the fuel system per the engine manufacturer’s procedure and inspect all fittings, seals, and the bowl drain plug for fuel leakage before starting the engine
  • Confirm installation complies with applicable USCG and ABYC standards for below-deck gasoline fuel systems

Technical FAQ

What is the replacement filter element for the 660R-RAC-02? The replacement spin-on element is the Racor S3228TUL (10 micron). The mounting head and metal bowl are reusable — only the spin-on element is replaced at each service interval.

Why does the inboard version require a metal bowl? USCG regulations require flame-resistant metal bowls on gasoline fuel filter/water separators installed below deck in inboard and sterndrive applications. The 660R-RAC-02 is UL Listed and USCG approved for this use.

What is the difference between 660R-RAC-02 and 660R-RAC-01? The 660R-RAC-02 has a metal bowl for below-deck / inboard / sterndrive installations. The 660R-RAC-01 has a clear bowl for outboard and above-deck use only. Both are rated at 120 GPH with 3/8"-18 NPTF ports.

What is the difference between 660R-RAC-02 and 320R-RAC-02? The 660R-RAC-02 is rated at 120 GPH with 3/8"-18 NPTF ports. The 320R-RAC-02 is rated at 60 GPH with 1/4"-18 NPTF ports. Both use a metal bowl for below-deck USCG compliance.

How do I drain the metal bowl? The metal bowl uses a drain plug. Remove the plug to drain accumulated water and debris during service, then reinstall securely and check for leaks before returning to service.

Parts Desk Insights

The 660R-RAC-02 is the high-flow below-deck inboard separator — the right call when a customer has a larger inboard or multi-engine sterndrive installation that exceeds the 60 GPH capacity of the 320R-RAC-02. The two key qualifying questions are: 1) Is the installation below deck / inboard? (metal bowl required) and 2) Does the fuel-flow demand exceed 60 GPH? (660R required). Confirm port size: 3/8"-18 NPTF on the 660R vs. 1/4"-18 NPTF on the 320R — this is the most common spec confusion between the two series. Replacement element is S3228TUL — same part number as the 320R-RAC-02 element, but always verify against the actual assembly. The drain plug on the metal bowl should be confirmed tight after every service — a loose drain plug is the most common post-service leak point on metal-bowl assemblies.
