The backbone is the main trunk cable that runs the length of the vessel, carrying network data and power. Spur cables branch off the backbone at each T-piece and connect to individual devices. Spur cables use a different, smaller 5-pin connector than backbone cables and are not interchangeable with backbone segments. No β spur cables and backbone cables use different connector types. Spur cables connect individual devices to the backbone at a T-piece or 5-way block. Backbone cables form the main trunk.
How many spur cables can I run off one backbone?
SeaTalkNG supports up to 50 network nodes. Each T-piece provides one spur connection point; 5-way blocks provide four spur connections plus two backbone connections.
Does the spur cable carry power to my device?
Yes β SeaTalkNG spur cables carry both data and 12Β VΒ DC power from the backbone to the connected device, so no separate power wiring is needed for most SeaTalkNG instruments.
Is this compatible with NMEA 2000 DeviceNet devices?
SeaTalkNG spur connectors are Raymarine-proprietary and not directly compatible with DeviceNet connectors. An adaptor such as the A06076 is required for NMEA 2000 DeviceNet devices.
