Raymarine A06036 – SeaTalkNG Backbone Cable, 5M

The A06036 is a 5-metre (16.4 ft) pre-made SeaTalkNG backbone cable that carries both network data and 12 V DC power between SeaTalkNG connection points along your vessel’s electronics backbone. Fitted with Raymarine’s blue-keyed locking backbone connectors at both ends, it plugs directly into T-piece connectors, 5-way blocks, and other SeaTalkNG backbone junction hardware. At 5 metres, it is the longest single-segment pre-made backbone cable in the SeaTalkNG range and is well suited to longer trunk runs between widely spaced junction points.

Product Details

  • Part Number: A06036
  • Brand: Raymarine
  • Type: SeaTalkNG Backbone Cable
  • Length: 5 m (16.4 ft)
  • Connector Type: SeaTalkNG blue backbone locking connector (both ends)
  • System: SeaTalkNG / NMEA 2000-compatible network backbone
  • SKU: 152-A06036

Compatible Applications

  • SeaTalkNG backbone trunk runs requiring a 5-metre segment
  • Long runs between helm, nav station, engine room, and aft instrument locations on mid-to-large vessels
  • Backbone extensions where shorter pre-made lengths (400mm, 1M, 3M) don’t cover the required span
  • Included as a backbone cable component in the Raymarine E22158 SeaTalkNG Backbone Kit
  • Vessels running Raymarine MFDs, autopilots, instrument displays, sonar, and radar on a shared SeaTalkNG backbone

System Overview

SeaTalkNG is Raymarine’s onboard networking standard, electrically and functionally compatible with NMEA 2000. The backbone is the main trunk of the network, running the length of the vessel and carrying both device data and power. Individual devices connect off the backbone at T-piece connectors via spur cables. Both ends of every backbone must be fitted with terminator plugs for the network to operate correctly.

Parts Desk Insights

Best Use Case: The A06036 is the right pick when you need to bridge a long gap between two SeaTalkNG junction points β€” for example, running the backbone from a helm T-piece to a junction block at the transom or engine room on a larger vessel. Its 5-metre length avoids the need to chain multiple shorter cables together for a single long run, which reduces the number of connectors in the backbone and keeps the installation cleaner.

Common Issues: Customers sometimes order only backbone cables without accounting for terminators β€” every SeaTalkNG backbone needs a terminator at each open end or the network will fail to initialise. Also confirm the physical routing distance including bends and conduit paths before ordering; 5M offers limited extra slack if your measured run is close to the cable length. Ensure all blue backbone connectors are fully clicked into their locking positions β€” a partially seated connector is the most common cause of intermittent SeaTalkNG dropouts.

Technical FAQ

Can I chain two A06036 cables together to make a 10M run?
Yes β€” backbone cables connect end-to-end via T-pieces or connector blocks. Each junction point also provides a spur tap for connecting a device.

Does this cable carry power to my devices?
The backbone carries 12 V DC power from the backbone power cable to all T-pieces along the run. Individual devices draw power from the backbone through their spur connections. The power cable for the backbone is sold separately (included in the E22158 Backbone Kit).

Is this compatible with NMEA 2000?
SeaTalkNG is electrically compatible with NMEA 2000. The blue locking connectors are Raymarine-proprietary, so a DeviceNet adaptor is required to connect standard NMEA 2000 devices. See the A06082 or A06076 adaptors.

Do I need terminators?
Yes β€” every SeaTalkNG backbone must have a terminator plug (A06031) at each open end. Without terminators the network will not start correctly.
